Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

A couple days shy of three months since I first requested my refund. Two subsequent follow-ups, the last of which over a month ago said the refund would take five to 10 days.

On 25 March I cancelled my QF return PE flight to UK booked for May and paid via AMEX.

After 6 weeks called QF FF phone number to follow up. Recorded announcement advised refunds being processed in 8 to 10 weeks.

Called QF FF phone after 10 weeks and recording still advised that refunds were being processed in 8 to 10 weeks AND that QF FF team were not dealing with Enquiries about refunds. No alternative contact point was suggested.

Its 12 weeks tomorrow since I cancelled my flight and still no word from QF.

I dislike that I received no confirmation by email of cancellation and I have no evidence other than the screenshot of the acknowledgment taken at the time of cancellation.

So glad I opted for a refund rather than a credit voucher. When Qantas shut down all flights during its brawl with the unions I boycottEd them for 2 years. I think I will be doing that for longer this time.

IMPROVED FLEXIBILITY FOR CUSTOMERS

...
If a flight is cancelled by us, customers will be rebooked on the next available flight at no additional cost. Alternatively, customers can choose a flight credit or a refund.
Here is the link to that: QANTAS GROUP ANNOUNCES ‘FLY WELL’ TO PREPARE FOR TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS EASING

I have just been on a call for a late August cancellation MEL to/from SIN/BKK . The agent I spoke has obviously been told to avoid allowing refunds "no policy yet for August Flights", so I quoted the relevant parts of the above content (".. for travel between 1 August and 31 October 2020 ").

I was then told eight to 10 weeks - I said that is OK. They seemed surprised/relieved.

Bring on September ...

My cash booking (J INTL, ~$5K worth) was cancelled by Qantas today. I called to get a refund, was no issue - but was told it will take 8-10 weeks.

Well I finally got my refund back almost 12 weeks after my flights were cancelled. 2 phone calls and 3 emails (only 1 was answered) is all it took.. (P.S No email was send, just me checking my CC account)

I am lucky that I didn't depreatly need the money, but 12 weeks is pretty bad. I wonder if there will be any action again qantas once this whole covid thing is over.

I just received an email from Qantas about flight credits. They've extended them until December 2022.

Added flexibility for your Flight Credit
Following customer feedback, our team has been working hard to improve the conditions of our Flight Credits and provide more time to book and travel and more flexibility and choice for our customers.
We’re extending the expiry date on eligible Flight Credits until the end of 2022, so you have more time to plan future trips.

They've also finally made the system changes to enable them to be used across multiple bookings.

Does anyone know what the rules are for credits issued before 31 January 2020? Mine was issued on 29 January so not eligible for the extension to 2022 on the face of it.

Wonder if they will provide the same extension re: status rollover? I'm beginning to think it will be another 18 months (or vaccine roll out if earlier) before your average person can travel (meaning, no quarantine, able to get insurance). I don't think I've had covid so any global antibody test passport type thing won't work for me.

I got the same email about flight credits extended, but also a ‘targeted’ DSC for flights between Sydney and Ballina.....need to register and book before 24 June and fly July or August 2020

I have a flight credit from a called Sydney to Perth flight. I've know the flights need to be limited to your home country but is there a restriction on the destination? There seems to be as I can't redeem for international flights?

You can redeem for both domestic and international flights departing from Australia, if your original booking originated in Australia. The only restriction is that it's only possible to redeem online for new flights departing from the same country as your original booking was made from (i.e. in the same currency).

It's quite possible that the Qantas website could be broken, however, or there may be no flights to the international destination you're looking at. In which case you may need to call.

But this only applies to cash bookings. If award bookings say ex Singapore you will get taxes back rather than a credit?

For those with credits for bookings originally made during a DSC offer and wish to use their voucher towards multiple new bookings...

It looks like the first booking will retain the original PNR (which could be useful) but if there is remaining credit left, a new voucher with a new PNR will be created.

If it's an award booking, you should be entitled to a full refund of the points & taxes (and not issued with a credit).

I wonder if Rewards flights that earn status credits if you're a Points Club will earn the DSCs. There doesn't seem to be anything in the T&Cs that disqualify these.
