Qantas reward seats Syd to Sin in 2023

Is it likely that qantas will make more reward seats available as capacity increases throughout 2023 on this route? There are no business reward seats in 2023 when I just looked.
 
I don't see much more capacity being added to the route by QF. It is already 14x weekly.

What you see is what you get, unfortunately. However, it is a good candidate for new award seats if QF decides to do another batch release of seats, as it has done several times in the past 12 months.

Someone posted elsewhere that QF1/2 are pretty much blocked for reward seats at the moment - no doubt due to high demand for revenue seats.

I have seen seats on QF81/82 but pretty much everything for 2023 has been snapped up already and unlikely to release more - unless some QF1/2 seats do get released closer to departure.

There are still 4 A380’s to return to service so I’m hoping for more capacity that hasn’t been released yet. (Also looking for MEL - SIN)
 
I was in the same boat - I had originally booked SYD-SING with BA (via Qantas Classic Rewards) in J - there are still a few seats available which looks to be the best (only) option.

Was lucky enough that a manual request seats on QF81 came through so was successful as a Platinum member.

I'm not sure that's the way the system works if the award seats are released less than say 300 days ahead - its only close to one year ahead that the elite have an advantage - though I could be wrong!
 
There's some award space from SIN back to SYD on QF82 just after King's Birthday on 13th, 16th, and 17th June in Business. I was just checking to put together a trip.

There's no outbound business space on QF81 around that time though. However, QF81 is a daytime flight and QF82 is overnight, so personally I wouldn't mind booking Economy QF81 outbound, spending the long weekend in Singapore plus a few days, then returning on QF82 overnight in business.

What makes you think "many" flights (QF1/2) travel to europe without a single J reward pax?

You do understand that when the seats are released 355 days out they will get grabbed by astute pax with higher status ASAP right?

I'm not sure what you mean by putting "pressure" on QF - even if they don't release a J reward seat on flight(s) that's YM indicating revenue demand is much higher as we all know. these flights are all going out full in premium cabins.

Reward seats aren't a "right" per se imo.
 
To avoid the red eye in whY scenario, you can get the short SIN-PER, o/n in hotel bed, then onward to the East coast as a day flight all for the same points as direct (so long as the layover is less than 24 hrs or is it 12?). Either way, something departing PER east up-to noon is civilised. Even better if you can do the same in J (for those with PC/PC+ that’s better SCs earn also).

I don’t think any airline should be pressured into releasing x number of reward seats as they are in the industry of making money so why give away seats when you can charge to dollar? Besides that I’m not sure how you would know if aircraft have zero reward passengers onboard. The QF elites are snaffling up the good ones well before us low tier mob get a look in and that’s the way it should work.

You are of course right under the current Qantas arrangements. However, I absolutely think we should ask Qantas why it does not want to offer the same thing that other airlines (such as BA and Virgin Atlantic) have been doing for years - guaranteed reward seats in every class on every flight.

Of course, also with BA the J and F rewards LHR-SYD get snapped up very quickly, but at least as a points collector you have a chance to get a J or F reward - not the Qantas "do do whatever magic we feel like" reward seat releases.

while "selling" seats as rewards offer some yield (and reduce a bit of liability) in no way do they make up for real revenue. QF would rather the yield they are pretty sure they can make by selling it to some suck...customer willing to cough up for the paid fare... and if it is unsold at flight time, or near to, plenty of elites sitting on the upgrade WL... so win/win as far as they're concerned.

yes, customer friendly notions like guarantees and all are all very well and good, but even if they did guarnatee X seats on every flights, you still are competing against a great many people for that very limited inventory. Even if you search right on 0000Z of release day. So it's still going to be a coughshoot. And if you have lower or no status, any guarantees won't mean much of a P1 or WP snaffle those J or F seats already.

Yeah, QF72 reward seats drop off from end of June… I was looking around mid / late July and nothing. Which gets back to your original question but keep looking….

BA do it, it provides credibility to their loyalty programme. It gives customers confidence that if they invest their money into the Avios scheme that they will be looked after. In my mind, this is exactly what Qantas is missing right now, at times it feels like a cowboy operation.
Check long haul Avios availability out of the UK and it's actually pretty good, despite the scheme having a huge number of members in the UK and US. Qantas however...

When new routes are announced, availability is released across the whole year to all members. When this happens, I have noticed there is consistently a blackout period from July to October.

As if QF needs any thing like "credibility" or "customer confidence" people are hooked to QFF already. If people didn't have confidence then there would be less people competing for seats, and less need for us all to complain about lack of availability! They are essentially operating in a low competition environment, despite VA, when it comes to loyalty. They don't need to do anything different, at least for now.

Personally, I'm in favour of them releasing dribs and drabs over time. So those of us who can't plan 12 months in advance (or can and have those plans blown apart) can have access to seats ...

So, you're basically relating an anecdote. while earlier you implied you had some sort of concrete knowledge.

You do not give any indication of your own status, but that could also be a factor in what you're seeing as available or not. QF dos give bias to higher status members - and you may think that is not fair - it's also their business model.

I'm not denying QF do have some blackout periods - or at times seem to on some routes (but OTOH higher status folks can sometimes get seats released). I'm not defending QF either. It's their business model to do with as they please, and it's for us as customers to vote with our $$$ also.
