Qantas rolls out Classic Plus Flight Rewards

Availability is already dwindling from what I saw at 6.45am this morning. I suspect Vanessa Hudson will stand up at 11am (followed by a bulk email to members) announcing lots of classic rewards have been released along with the changes which may be all but unavailable by then.

I am looking at clearing out my points for a OWA in March 2025 .
Can't find any J CR s that far ahead that is part of the "dump".
Has anyone?

interesting that is obviously ranked around some sort of demand pricing and movable rather than fixed alternative option, points wise.

So I just did some random searches and what was curious was SYD-CHC (return) 2x J:

CR 166,000 pts + $514 (the pts being 41,500 pp each way)

CR+ 128,400 pts + $514 (being 32,100 pts pp each way).

Now granted, there’s a NZ sale on now but there does appear to be some value in CR+.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

So… sell points to banks and businesses at 1c each. Pax now redeeming at 1c each. ‘Profit’ comes for the fees and charges?

There were a large number of error (mistake fares) in there. MEL-JFKbooked @ 183,000 CR+ in J for 5 PAX.

Error has been fixed now. But too late!!!!!!

This was part of the leaked info - that they are linked to revenue fares in the market - so in that sense dynamic, but at a fixed rate (ie 1.5c/point for premium seats)

Early thoughts:
- Classic+ appears to be available for all flights.
I was trying to compare another route with some CR availability but can’t get it to show CR+ (SYD-YVR)….
- Taxes and fees are high ($1600 for a return J ticket SYD-LHR)
Exactly the same on a return booking - from what I could see.
- Points prices will be lower for return flights as cash prices are lower for return flights
This will be a key thing to consider v CR. With the exception of routes that price ok as one way fares (eg Domestic and TT).

Can CR and CR+ be mixed on the same international itinerary? (CR out, CR+ back for instance). Will this give the cheaper "return" pricing for CR+?

I assume "under the hood" booking a CR+ will still book you into a reward (X, Z, U, P) fare code.

I also wonder if you can freely change between CR and CR+ flights by paying the 5000pt change fee.

ASX announcement is out.

According to the statement when fully rolled out, they expect 20 million new seats to be available throughout the year. Initial Classic+ seats are International only, but Domestic will be available by the end of the year.

The "investment" is expected to cost QF up to $125m in total to initially implement; will impact growth of QFF profitability this financial year but expect to see growth returning to normal (10%+ YOY) from FY25 onwards.

So in other words from FY 25 onwards CR disappear

Looks like Classic+ Rewards will also potentially be upgradable too across all classes including J to F - functionality to be made available from May.
