Qantas SC with JAL Domestic Business

Howdy all,

Does anyone know what SC you get flying JAL Domestic business? On the Q status calculator, it only shows Y, PE and F but no Biz. Just seeing if it's worth paying a touch more for Biz, because the Biz lounges in domestic are pretty sparse.

I'm looking to book HND-AKJ and return.

J (domestic business) earns at premium economy rates or economy rates depending on the original fare basis.

The cheap surcharges on discounted fares used to be a good way of earning QF SCs, sadly no longer.

Agreed JLs domestic lounges are not much more than a private waiting room.

You won't get access to JAL domestic lounges by paying for Class J anyway.

The domestic Sakura lounge is accessible to OWS equivalents only, and some edge cases like connecting off an international business ticket.

The domestic Diamond Premier lounges are accessible to F pax and OWE equivalents.

Paying for JAL domestic tickets and trying to work out what you'll earn on QFF is a complete coughshoot...

Hi all!

Hoping you can help clarify re: earning QF points and status credits on JL domestic flights.

Thinking of booking JAL on their Japan Explorer Pass: JAL Japan Explorer Pass

On JAL's website they are booked as Economy tickets. When I entered the From and To airports, as well as select Earn Category - Economy on Qantas Points and SC Calculator, it shows that I will earn points and SC in JL domestic Economy class.

Wondering if any seasoned travellers can tell me if I'm missing something? For eg. with JQ economy fare has to be booked with plus package to earn QF points and SC...

Been discussed at length above, most common conclusion is as @sudoer said... It's a complete coughshoot. If any SCs land in your account consider yourself lucky. I've flown Explore Japan Passes at both levels, regular Y and J and couldn't highlight a consistent approach.

@Blacksheep I have limited experience flying JAL business domestic but that was very underwhelming in respect of experience in the air. Cup of juice but no food or meals at all.

Fortunately, it was just a QF award flight, but I would never pay for JAL domestic business.

Depends on the mood it can be as cheap as $20 above Y.

The real value is in the few flights with domestic F (often only $80 surcharge) which is a much bigger seat and a (ime) great meal.

Albeit as discussed above typically not F SCs these days.

I'm finding JAL J domestic is head case, Only allowed 1 checked in luggage - 20kg. Bit weird when you're flying J international and allowed 3 bags 32kg.
I'd love to get F where they allowed 45kg....but unfortunately no F on my route.

I literally called Japan to query and they said 1 X 20kg. Called the Australian call centre which was useless. They directed me to JAL in Japan.

That is the usual domestic allowance. JEP is an online only fare accessible to tourists only. It clearly lists the luggage allowance as 2x23kg

‘class J’ is not business. It is a more spacious premium economy type seat with economy class service.
