Flying Qantas QF 79 Mel to Tokyo. A330-300. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the best seats in economy with a 11month old in lap, 3 year old in seat, and 2 adults? Booking the 3 out of 4 middle seats (hoping get lucky and no one sits next to us? Or the rows at the very back which only have 3 seats in the middle? Thanks

We've found with kids that age, the two little ones can share the middle seat during the flight, as long as you can put the armrests up.

I would want a bassinet seat - 23DEFG or 45DEFG.
11mo may be too big for the bassinet, but the extra room in front of the seat on the ground is very helpful to put bags and easily switch out activities for the kids to play with.

And I'm going to bet that no one would want to take the 1 remaining seat out of 4 in that bassinet row - unless they themselves desperately needed the bassinet ;)

I would! No way to know at the time of seat selection that it was in fact a family with infant… could just be platinums with advance seat selection. I’d snap up the bulkhead at T-80, and then probably not able to move after that.

Wow! I ALWAYS assume that people in the bassinet row, especially in Y, have a baby with them and avoid like the plague!

I've done my time travelling with babies, toddlers and teenagers, and now I like to keep my distance! I always feel sorry for people struggling with their little ones though and have played a few games of hide and seek with babies to keep them distracted for a while so mum or dad can eat slam down their meal!

Thanks for the responses! Never traveled in the bassinet seats /bulkhead...but are the arm rests fixed? Or can be moved up? Also I'm assuming bags need to be placed in the overhead? If so, would this be inconvenient if needing to grab things for the kiddos? Or is there room somewhere to store stuff on the wall?

Yes, armrests are fixed and bags need to be overhead for take off and landing.

as blackcat points out, only for takeoff and landing. in fact if you have a good sized cabin bag you can use it as a decent leg rest during flight!
