Qantas spits out VB and Crown Lager in favour of up-market brews

Not sure VB is popular among the standard QF crowd

Would be popular on Tiger and Jetstar no doubt

I remember one HKG-SYD flight I did where the pax sitting next to was on their first trip to AU... We got onto talking about beers and I gave them the standard warning against VB... I still find it a little amusing that when dinner was served I was quickly asked again to remind him which beer was the right one to get...

Personally I'm a big fan of the craft beers. Never much liked crownies, and I stopped drinking VB when I turned 18...

It's good to hear QF listens to its customers (for once) and offers something most customers want.

For me, I always go for the craft beer (or cider) if I am at the QP and I do love to try whatever craft/international beer that they have on tap/machine, it is good to have something different once in a while.

I like most Little Creatures and White Rabbit brews but as both are subsidiaries of Lion Nathan they're no longer true craft beers. Having a VB inbound you knew you'd be home soon.

Well Lion Nathan and CUB are both no longer owned by Australia's unfortunately.
To be truly the Spirit of Australia, they would be serving Coopers or some of other local craft beers like Red Oak, Lord Nelsons, Gages...

Great news about the beer, I noticed the positive change a while ago and was very pleased with more high quality options.
Now let's see if they can also improve the wine selection as well...

I wish they would fix the inflight offering what happened to Squires Amber Ale?

Up-market brews? Most are awful.

It is a shame Pure Blonde is gone. Super Dry is not quite the same.

Those beers must be two of the worst I have ever tasted, absolutley shocking (but each to there own).

Give me a good Pilsner, Amber Alse, Pale Ale or IPA anyday

Qantas must have done an "Irish Survey "the he latest figures I can find show VB as Australia's biggest selling beer, closely followed by xx_X Gold.
Another "enhancement "?

Quality over quantity I say. You will never please them all, but for the life of me I cannot see how this can be considered an "enhancement".

Crown Lager is an abomination.....closely followed by the Vomit Bomb

I agree, but it's somewhat ironic given a broad summary of Qantas' recent domestic strategy is to lower the quality and increase the quantity twice as fast as everyone else!

Sounds like all round genuine enhancement to me. Wow, what a refreshing change!! :)

I'm a big fan of little creatures and am a big fan of both their pale ales and bright ales... I just try and ignore the fact they are now technically Lion Nathan...
I had a few hours to kill in Freo last year, so I did the little creatures brewery tour which was both interesting, and a good way of trying the various beers which they make (all for "free") which is the reason I got to try their bright ale.

I'm not too sure about the whole having a VB inbound thing... I can think of a few things I'd rather drink...

Why 2003?-please explain

i'm guessing burrco just means that 'beer' is 'so early 2000's' ie the 'tastes' of (some)drinkers have evolved/changed over the last 10yrs or so!! (hence the reference to ciders)... and just plucked 2003 as a reference...wasn't meant to be taken literally.. that's my interpretation anyway... im happy to corrected by burrco

in the end....airlines cant please everyone!!!

Yes indeed - no confusion meant just a random date. More a reflection that in the last few years a lot of people who used to prattle on about boutique beers now prattle on about boutique ciders. Of course some people have always preferred beer and some people have always preferred cider. That said I prefer cider and wish Qantas had a greater selection!

totally understand and agree... but as with all airlines..storage space is finite for food/bev...more 'variety' leads to less of each 'selection'...which inevitably leads to more 'complaints' when someones 'choice' runs out inflight...some pax actually can't comprehend that there is limited supply/space of food/bev on a plane...
