Qantas Status Challenge - your experiences

I got a reply from QF as below. This was about 6 weeks after I emailed details of my flight history. It doesn't have the disclaimer at the bottom about not being eligible for any Status Credit promotions that CPMaverick has above.

Do you think this disclaimer is to say just that double status credits won't count to the accelerator tally, or that you won't even be allowed to earn double status credits?

Thank you for contacting the Qantas Frequent Flyer Service Centre.

We appreciate your interest in flying with Qantas.

After thoroughly reviewing the flight history you’ve sent us, we are glad to offer our Qantas Gold Accelerator challenge to assist you in reaching Qantas Gold status faster. Earn at least 200 Status Credits on Qantas marketed and operated flights and we’ll upgrade you to Qantas Gold.

Please respond to this email on the specific date you want us to start your challenge and we’re happy to enrol you.

DSC promo T&C recently have referred to the Challenges in that they don't apply (which is absolutely reasonable). I suspect once one earns enough to retain Gold (or higher) status that promos would both be offered and useable like any other QFF member.

I guess my question is....if I was under the accelerator, and booked a flight with a native 100 SC, I understand that only 100 SC would apply when counting whether I got to the 200 SC challenge. However, would I be able to still bank 200 SC to my lifetime SC count? Or they just wouldn't let you participate in DSC at all.

It certainly sounds like you can't participate at all. I'm not sure if that is the intention but it's worded that way.

If I achieved Gold this way but a DSC promotion would allow me to get to Platinum the 'hard' way a few months later, I would be quite annoyed if they blocked me from achieving that. Luckily I don't expect to be in that situation.

Just to follow-up on my experience:

I reached 210 SC after one trip, all on QF metal and QF marketed.

The SC posted less than 24 hours after my flights. I was upgraded to Gold about 8 hours after they posted. My expiry is June 2020, so I guess I received 14 months of status (my challenge expired June 15, so not sure if that is related or not).

It all pretty much went as advertised. Just wish they would have offered me Platinum, but oh well. :)
