Qantas Status Credits when flying Malaysia Airlines

Ok I am very confused by all this. From the chart, you'd think that I and Z were the only fares affected. A few weeks ago, I had a pre-COVID ticket rebooked onto a KUL-DPS-KUL itinerary with Z outbound and D back.

MH booking classes.JPG

The Z credited with the expected 30 SCs automatically. Due to a bugger-up of my FF number on the return leg, I had to request manual intervention to get the points. They showed up eventually but at the Flexible Economy Rate too. I queried this with Qantas and they said:

We’ve checked the points credited to your account for your travel to Kuala Lumpur and back on 04th of September and can confirm they have been calculated correctly. Though it was reflecting as Flex Economy it was credited as Business class. Kindly check this link for your reference

Flights booked in C, D, I , J and Z class will earn at Flexible Economy Frequent Flyer Earn Category, however will receive Malaysia Airlines Business Class service, and flights booked in A, F and P class will earn at Flexible Economy Frequent Flyer Earn Category, however will receive Malaysia Airlines First Class service.

Given that this wasn't between KUL and Europe, Australia or the UK and should therefore be an "All other flights" earn, my reading of the rules is that it should have been 60 SCs, no? Otherwise, does anyone know if the earn class is based on the fare basis (ZGSRT6MY) rather than the class I've highlighted on the booking? Might that explain it?

This is the way I would interpret it as well. I think they are not looking at the table correctly. The flight was intra-Asia and should fall under "All other flights" meaning D class should fall under the Business earn category.

Very most likely its to the crediting airline's FF system, ie, QFF.
QFF not wanting to grant disc J points and SC.
If you had put the miles to MH's own Enrich or even BA Avios/CX AsiaMiles, it would have earnt at disc J miles and SC.
But because its QFF, its lower.
Disappointment, yes, but that this the way QFF treat its earn with partners.

I note that today QF's status calc:
says that dps-kul and kul-lgk respectively yield 60 & 40 SC, so a 200pt haul for the return, which is pricing up at 1400 today, 7/sc. I'm sure these were closer to 3/sc when I last did this run.

Unsure if exactly relevant - but there is specific table/ adjustment relating to MH fare classes that overrules the table you referenced above.

From memory only the flex business intra Asia class (Z) I think it was - earns as business. Everything else is flex Y I.e discount business/ sale business is Y flex.

BA on the other hand had no such distinction and thus the old MH status flights stil offer a cheap way to OW emerald / BA platinum.

Ah. Looking back the itinerary dps-kul-lgk-kul-dps with MH in J was about a third of the price last I did it (19) for the same SC earn

I and Z will earn as Flexible Economy intra asia. C, D and J will earn at Business level.

Hi, I am booked on Malaysia from Adel to London June/July. Unfortunately Qantas was way too much more expensive and I got a cheaper flight up there - not so cheap return. But then I also paid the extra for a flexible flight. Have since paid more for better seats also - one being in the Premium economy area I believe.
Anyway have just noticed the cabin class going there is O and returning is M. I cant even see O mentioned on the calculator tables? Wondering how many SC etc I will earn?

0 SC and points. This isn't just when crediting to QFF, O class earns nothing outside of MH Enrich:

QFF does skew the earn rates for flex Y and J on MH, but deep discount economy classes with many airlines are often not eligible for points & SC on partner FFs.

Yes unfortunately it looks like you won't earn anything on QF.

As mentioned here and the other recent thread, it seems that MH don't align fare codes with the flexibility advertised (Lite, Basic, Flex).

Keep the BP for a claim, in case the points and SC (if any) don't appear.
And to put in a retro claim, but I know what to expect though.
Don't hold much hope though.
MH and QF are now frenemies.
Not that they will admit it.

The booking isn't eligible to earn anything, so points and SC will not appear. There's no point keeping the BP or lodging a missing points claim. This has nothing to do with the MH and QF relationship - O class does not earn on any oneworld carrier other than MH, AFAIK.

Just coming across this now as planning a trip from ADL to MLE, it's super frustrating that the only fare class offered online is O class, in this particular scenario MH is easily the most convenient and comfortably cheapest option (return for $900 or $1,150 Flex) but it sucks that it is not a SC/points earning fare. Qantas alternatives are far more expensive with far less convenient timings/routings. Went to a travel agent to look into the fare buckets for the convenient flights direct out of ADL and work out what the cheapest SC earning fare would be and the price went up to $3,500 return.

Will fly without the SCs rather than pay an extra $2,600. At least will still have lounge access I suppose.

I'd be asking for a 2nd opinion. You need minimum classes KLMV for discount economy SC:

For some random upcoming dates there are V class fares starting at $1362 + taxes. If you can see availability in O class I'm making the assumption V or L inventory is available.

ADL-KUL-MLE is a valid routing on this fare basis:

Are you able to share some specific dates?

Thanks for sharing that information.

Would be flying out of Adelaide on 17 October 2024, an overnight stopover in KL and flying to Male on 18 October 2024.

ADL-KUL MH138
KUL-MLE MH485

Returning to Adelaide on 24 October 2024 via KL. Back into Adelaide on the morning of the 25th.

MLE-KUL MH484
KUL-ADL MH139

You already probably know this: in regards to MH and QF.
Earning QFF points and QFF SC with MH, there are only 2 classes that earn, ie, discY and flexY.
So even if you book a J cabin seat, it will still only earn at flexY rate of QFF points and QFF SC.

Not quite right Poochie.

As per the QFF earning tables, that is true for AU/NZ to Malaysia and Malaysia to UK/europe and ME (ie DOH).

All other flights earn at appropriate levels. Ie KUL-MLE booked in I would earn as Business.
