Just got an e-mail. I have been watching fares to DPS over the past few weeks, so checked this out.

There has been a long-running 'sale' fare MEL-DPS in J $1,445 to the end of November - about the same as Virgin, both on a B737. I'm looking for early December so asked my Travel Agent to check out to see if the lower fare was available then. Reply: no - only the highest category J fares have been loaded (checked NDC as well) and as time went on, its remained so. Only fully Flex fares available.

$3,188 is the go on QF. Virgin about $1,500.

So the new 'sale'? MEL-DPS 1 way $2,995 (return is simply double that). A whole $192 off - and its during the sale period. And still about double VA's J price, both on B737s.

I hope others find better value.

I booked MEL-SIN-DPS on SQ widebodies using 45K Aeroplan miles and abt $140.

"Surprise!" - this promo is for flights across Australia.
Looking at the international sale page, absent any actual deals, best price is in the $2,835 and up range for a RT between 3rd October and 16th November this year.

Did it mean 'flights within Australia'? To get to DPS from MEL I fully expect to fly across Australia to get there. :)

But point taken: MEL- DPS are 'Global Deals' not Sale, so  for me. Sorry, Qantas, how could I ever doubt you? But still under the 'Global Deal' the price has for early Dec has come down $192, and still double VA. I mean, who would pay that?

I left the "across Australia" gag there for you!

Ironic that they call it the Global Deal, when it truly is anything but.
Somehow, the planes will be full though.

As usual, there’s nothing surprising at all about Qantas’ latest “surprise” sale. Qantas Marketing really need to more accurately describe their tactics. Perhaps the “Disappointment” Sale or “PriceGouging” Sale - they’re sure to resonate with the loyal QF Fan Boys and Defenders that will book these “Sale” fares on a whim 🤣

$139 MEL-SYD vv… just a couple dollars more than VA but with all the extras! And pretty much guaranteed IFE and wifi. Yes it’s bringing fares more in to line with VA, but at those prices it’s a good deal - for qantas - for all the added extras.

It’s just one of many domestic only Sales. Nothing to get to excited about.

pre-Covid SYD-MEL was closer $99 one way… But yes, I’d pick QF over VA.

What’s odd is some of the fares. SYD-ADL is the same as SYD-CNS! 🤷‍♂️ They used to be at least $50 apart in the past.

$99 to SYD wasn't very common, just looked at Christmas 2018 sale and MEL-SYD was $129, went back further May 2017 they had a $109 sale on that route, but we are talking almost 8 years ago

But my main point earlier was the bizarre pricing of ADL v CNS. Above was ok but I paid less around the same time.
