Qantas suspends direct flights to and from Delhi - June to Oct 2025

Yes, 6E was always a viable option, but not via the codeshare agreement with QF to operate the 6E leg as a QF number.

My understanding is, some 'N' years ago, QF had a codeshare agreement with 6E to operate domestic IND routes on a QF number as part of international itinerary. So SYD-BLR-MAA or MEL-DEL-MAA would be 2 QF numbers, rather than 1 QF and 1 6E number.

Fast forward a couple of years, 6E was then given the authority to fly international into SIN and QF then got another agreement (or extended the existing codeshare agreement) for 6E to operate as a QF codeshare from SIN to cities in IND. So there is a 6E SIN-DEL/BOM/CJB, from memory. However, there is still no SIN-MAA/HYD/CCU/CGK as a QF codeshare.

Happy to be corrected.

Edit: Side Note: late last year MH got into an agreement with 6E to operate some domestic IND routes as a MH codeshare. Notably, there is AMD-KUL-SYD, that operates as a MH number all the way, with AMD-KUL in a 6E aircraft.
That's interesting because I'm certain I've seen you can do SIN-SYD/MEL/BNE/PER a 6E codeshares on QF metal..or maybe I'm wrong.

It could also be that QF could see this as an opportunity to feed more Y pax into the 6E SIN-DEL route? Noting that there is no J seats on any 6E fleet as of now, sending QF Y pax to 6E will see like QF is making the best use of the codeshare agreement and 6E will think nice thins about QF. Just my thoughts.

Having flown the MEL <-> DEL sector a number of times there is no way I'd be going via SIN. What a PITA for no good reason. Secondly, no way I'm flying 6E for a 5 hour flight. Seat pitch is horrible. They're a budget carrier. QF must be smoking crack if they think people would choose that as an option from MEL to DEL.

Yes that is possible too. I should have added this in my post. I thought about it but it slipped my mind. There are 6E codeshare on QF metal from SIN-AU cities. There are also AU domestic 6E codeshares on QF metal. Imagine MEL-CBR as a 6E number. I think I have a pic of it somewhere, when I noticed 6E numbers when boarding MEL-CBR.

Agree with you on all points. 6E seats are not designed for long travel. Within India (<2.5 hours to 3 hours) they are fine, anything more, need better seats. I flew DEL-MAA last year and it was very hard for to sit. The recline ain't that great either. However, as a means to get around within India, 6E is capturing the market greatly. Akasa Air is coming up, but I never had the opportunity to fly them so far. May be sometime this year.

SIN>SYD
6E (QF) 4610
6E (AY) 4674

SIN>BNE
6E (QF) 4601

SIN>MEL
6E (QF) 4604
6E (QF) 4606

SIN>PER
6E (QF) 4608

Then there's a whole bunch of other 6E codeshares to get you from those cities to other cities.

I totally get why 6E does well in the local domestic market.

Would love to hear your thoughts about Akasa when you do get the chance.

I'm going to miss the days of Vistara though. I only flew them Y+ domestically but I thought they were fantastic and great value for money. The extra cost of Y+ over Y tended to be 10% to 15%. As a person on first world wages it was a no brainer way to fly.

Found the domestic 6E codeshares pic I was talking about earlier.

Vistara is also on my list for 2025. Fingers crossed I get some IND domestics this year.

QF's original partner Jet Airways was pretty good too, but for the times I travelled in India Kingfisher set the high standard! Obviously that was not anytime recently.

I tried them again and I've had some luck. The connecting flight from Hong Kong wont get me into Delhi in time for my flight to London. So they have agreed to fly me on QF metal. They suggested via Perth but I've managed to get on QF1 with a few hours in Sydney following my flight from Melbourne to use the First lounge.
Yes it’s interesting. Despite the commercial policy posted above, the actual contract of carriage would override the commercial policy. 10.3 is the relevant clause: ‘discontinued route’. The wording isn’t brilliant, but QF would be required to cover any connecting flights as well as the discontinued flight itself, In this case it makes sense to accommodate on QF1 or 9 rather than have to rearrange connecting BA flights.

Eurgh. The plague of the protege taking over from the previous incumbent striking honest people.

I'm keen to know how a good TA could do this. I have a QF MEL-DEL-MAA, which is now MEL-SIN-DEL-MAA. I'm very keen to do MEL-SYD-BLR-MAA. I could spend the night in BLR catch up with some mates before heading to MAA. My TA tried to do this and says that they are unable to get some authorisation/authority/permission from QF to change to MEL-SYD-BLR-MAA.

Your TA needs some lessons in reading then...

It's the second dot point of the rebook section.
