I called qantas as we obviously can't get qf 1 in first for the end of May (as there is no first on the 787) and they said that the options would be to be downgraded and put on the flight via perth or to be on BA or emirates etc and stay in first, but they can't say yet what the options will be definitively. But we were to expect a call within the next week. So we basically have to wait.

I would call back with a very clear idea of the solution you want (i.e. flight numbers, dates and classes) and get them to make the change while you are on the phone. Otherwise it's a lottery what you'll get and you won;t find out until the alternatives have long gone. .
 
All computerised, I would expect, once the new flight schedules have been loaded. New e-tickets issued over the next few days/week?
You mean by those same IT people that everyone calls kids on work experience?
 
Really annoyed by this! Due to be flying on QF1 and then onto DUB in Y at the end of next month which was booked during the DSC offer. Have no desire whatsoever to sit in the Y for 17 hours on the 787. Done QF1 in Y a few times on the 380 on regular route and actually find it reasonably pleasant, so was pretty happy to book once the DSC came along even though it was a bit pricier than other options.

However, I've flown QFs 787 before and didn't find it very comfortable even for a 5 hour flight. I can't even begin to imagine how uncomfortable it's going to be for 17 hours! Going to ask for a reroute SYD - DXB - DUB on EK and see where I get with that. Problem is I then need to request original routing credits as need the SCs to get to gold. I suspect I won't get it but guess no harm in asking I suppose!

This is going to be interesting. QF1 will still be operating to the same schedule as far as SYD-LHR passengers in Y, Y+ & J are concerned. Will QF be lenient towards pax wanting to avoid the long PER-LHR leg?
 
So far our MEL-SYD-DPS booking is untouched - but @Pushka won't be so pleased at that news!

Hate the B787 narrow seats so a whole lot of places have been ruled out for the next six months after today's announcement :rolleyes:
 
Was booked on the new Chicago route to Sydney via BNE in business. It was a QF award booking.

My flight was changed to
Chicago to DFW (economy) then DFW to Sydney (business). I now have a 6 hour layover as they wouldn’t allow me to fly on the later QF codeshare to DFW - claiming I can’t go on codeshare flights with Qantas only American Airline flights - odd.

They told me they can’t accommodate passengers in business on partner airlines or on QF codeshare flights, so I sucked it up.

They said I was entitled to a partial refund of taxes, but no refund of points as it was matters outside of there control. I can’t attend a show I had organised to attend and paid for, but such is life.

They've made a commercial decision to change their operation as a result of an external event, the event itself did not force this outcome.
 
That's outrageous. This was entirely within their control. Qantas made the decision to change the plane!

In my experience with QF you are always charged the points in the highest booking class, it has been that way for a while. I do not agree with this but it seems to be the way it is. Any refund of points has been based on how well you know the points redemption rules and how well you can argue you case.

When you say "my flight was changed", was this advised by an (auto-generated) e-ticket re-issue, that you have received today, or was it as a result of phoning QF?

This caught my attention as I have an existing booking ORD-BNE in August, which is not going to happen.

Also, as the ORD-DFW flight on AA doesn't suit, I would be keeping an eye on award availability, as AA can, and do, release seats at anytime to QF, so something better may come up in the meantime.

Correct they are charging in the higher fare class. It’s a bit annoying given that the change waa as a result of their decision not mine.

You are actually charged the lowest possible fare... either the 'through fare' or sector by sector. I suspect the through fare is what's cheapest here. If not, the OP can call to have it re-priced.

I booked prior to the Qantas point increases - I wonder if this matters when they rebooked it?
