Qantas Titanium First Lounge / Card Cancellation

Hey all! This might be a little out of the box but hopefully someone might have had this experience. In short:

I have a Qantas Titanium card which gives 2x First lounge passes upon paying the annual fee each year. I have linked these passes to my upcoming trip in July already. However, I have recently also purchased a new home and need to cancel the card as a part of my application. Am I likely to have those passes revoked after cancelling my card? I have read the T&C's and it does not suggest this will happen. I also called and to be honest, I think she had trouble understanding what I was asking so I am not confident with the information given!

Your thoughts and knowledge are appreciated!

I can't comment specifically on Qantas Titanium (as I have not had one), but for every other card I have cancelled (including Citi issued ones like Titanium), once the passes are in you Qantas account. the deal is done, no way for the credit card company to get them back.

As a side note - whilst the benefits of the card have been ok for the $1200 annual fee in year one, you'd need to be booking some seriously hefty flights each year to make it worthwhile ongoing. Secondly, the Qantas money app and call centre experiences I have had have been average at best.

So I'm not answering your question but I had a thought. Could you not reduce your CC limit in order to get your home loan approved and then lift your limit once your loan has been finalised?

Just a thought if you want to keep the card.

It’s definitely a great thought and what I tried first. Minimum limit is $15k and I also want to keep another CC that has free international transactions that has another $15k so it impacts a bit.

That said, I have done some more research and there is nothing in the T&C that’s says passes will be revoked. I’ve also already linked it to my ticket so I wonder if that counts as used? I’ve already got the confirmation email to show when I arrive.

I might just run the gauntlet. It’s the only reason I want/need to keep the card. I’ve already used all the other benefits.

Would still be keen to hear from anyone that knows for sure about whether complimentary passes can be revoked once linked to a ticket.

As others have said, once the lounge pass is in your QF account there is nothing the credit card company can do to revoke it. It is not like, say, membership of Priority Pass where the entire membership can be revoked.

Paragraph deleted because it was wrong.

But even if the passes would be lost, they are hardly worth losing a mortgage over. The F Lounge is just a waiting room that is less comfortable than your sitting room.

If you need further reassurance, the passes are transferable to any other QF member. If you were that worried, you could transfer them to someone else and then transfer them back.
I don’t believe that is entirely correct.

In relation to Titanium passes - “First Lounge Invitations can be extended to a guest who is flying with you. They can’t be transferred to another QFF member travelling separately.”

This is right. I’ve already transferred to my wife on the same booking and linked to our tickets. But I couldn’t transfer to anyone else. It’s for these passes in particular.

Must be a pretty good card for a $1200 annual fee?
I wouldn't recommend it ongoing. In fact I am not sure what their angle is to retain customers. For the $1200 I am happy with the value considering the 150k points, 10% flight discount, 20% additional status credits, 2 F lounge and 2 Qantas Club passes. Plus the earn rate per $1 is best in market. Never intended to keep it beyond a year though. For now I will switch back to my CBA Ultimate card. Only 0.05 less points per dollar and it's free.

Thought I would update anyone interested in this.

I cancelled my Qantas Titanium card a couple of months ago, noting that I had already received the First Lounge passes and linked them to my booking. Despite the call centre telling me emphatically that I would lose them, I haven't. Maybe this is because they were already linked to my flight? I guess we will never know!

We just got the annual fee again, $1200 plus $100 for additional card holder, which made me run some numbers to see if we’re still getting that value back. We are, but most people couldn’t get the value back year after year - it’s a very niche proposition.
