Qantas to fly Melbourne-Jakarta

Loving this development. Would put some fire under Garuda, since they fly their inferior 2-2-2 J seats, and charges varying premiums over QF depending on time of year, and lower my cost of routine travel :)

4 more A380 to come back on line still right?

I'm trying to follow here. I think it's 3 or 4?

there were 12. 2 scrapped. 10 in total in fleet. 10 brought out of storage

2 in AUH for refurb, one in AUH for maintenance

The rest in service

QF is now around $3.5k but I remember it used to be $1k less?

Oh, yeah in J I've paid for $2.8k return on QF via SYD in the past, though comparing nonstop routes, Garuda now charges >$4k for the same route on worse seats, test dates I put in show $3.5k on QF.
Travelling in Y, difference is significant. Paid $1.2k return two months ago while QF seems to be charging about $800.

Why can't they re-schedule the A380 service back on the MEL-LAX route?
My guess is that there is a strategy of no further F from MEL ... just my guess.

I am eagerly awaiting the timetabling of the A380 SYD-HKG, have a MEL-HKG booked for (much) later this year so will be interesting to see when/if that is suspended.

Regards,

BD

We've also paid some extortionate fares on Garuda before our insurer re-instated a 'no fly' on them.

Good afternoon,
A friend of mine is looking at Business fares for flights MEL/CGK/MEL departing 14 May returning 19 May.
When he selects direct flight QF39/40 Sale, Saver, Flex fares in Business all show a dash; ie zero; against points or status credits to be earned.
The guide to earning points says points may be earned on Business sale fares to Jakarta.
In fact if you were to book MEL/SYD/CGK/SYD/MEL for example you would earn 9200 points and 160 Status Credits.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is it that Qantas have just not loaded the earning rates for the direct flights from MEL?
Personally I cannot remember Qantas Business flight that fail to earn points and Status Credits.
Appreciate your comments or thoughts. Thanks.

Probably Qantas hasn't yet loaded the route into its website/calculator. The flights will earn the same points/status credits as SYD-CGK.

Thanks Matt. My friend said he has now booked the flight and in booking established that he was earning points and SC.

Inaugural MEL-CGK flight QF39 is on its way more than an hour behind schedule...
