Qantas to fly to Broken Hill

punish Rex by attacking us in our regional market and trying to force us to retreat from the domestic airline business by undermining us in our traditional business.
How are those 737s going at doing exactly that to Qantas...

My parents usually said 'don't ask a question to which you know the answer'.

Would've been good to see ADL lobbed in there also. Adelaide - Broken Hill - Sydney (and vice versa). Or just an ADL service full stop.

In many ways, because it's so much closer, 'the Hill' has more connections with Adelaide than Sydney.

Similar to Albury with Melbourne.

QF Link the punisher! You know, I respect what Rex provide, but John Sharp needs to shut his mouth, every-single-word is absolute trash ...

Inaugural flight QF2017 today but flightradar24 was showing Aeroflot for some reason:

Pick the days where there are two airlines operating between Broken Hill and Sydney........

Interesting that Rex has also found the ability to resume operating direct flights between Broken Hill and Sydney without stopping in Dubbo now that they have a competitor.

A random grab of some day in April, not uncommon to see one-way fares in the order of $600-$700 so I can only imagine that it would be the taxpayer paying those fares, no sane person would be spending that much on fares out of their own pocket.

Interesting prices, note that QF and only operating this route on Mon and Fridays so they are the dates to watch out for.

Big asterix in the Rex Community Fares arrangement for this port ...

BHQ - SYD - BHQ is valid for Community Fares (non-stop)
DBO - SYD - DBO is valid for Community Fares
BHQ - DBO - BHQ is NOT applicable for Community Fares

Therefore, for the past period whilst Rex insist on routing via DBO, you may be paying approx $150-250 for the SYD-DBO leg, and then $550 + for the DBO-BHQ leg.

Last week, flying out of SYD (to BHQ via DBO) on Sunday afternoon, there was another SYD-DBO flight which departed approx 15 mins earlier.

The funny thing though - upon landing at DBO, 2 pax off, and 3 pax on.

Understand now with DBO-BHQ sectors not being in the community fares, this has affected prices between SYD-BHQ as Rex ceased flying direct between SYD and BHQ until Covid effects were gone. Good point about Rex community fares, these are the description of them lifted from the Rex website.

Community Fare - What is the Community Fare?

The Community Fare is a unique and innovative fare scheme pioneered by Rex.

Discounted Community Fares are available on participating routes for early-bird sales up to 30 days prior to departure subject to Community Fare availability*, and for last minute purchases within 24 hours before departure time, all remaining unsold seats are released at the Community Fare level.†

The discounted Rex "early bird" community fares can often sell out fairly early, and although sometimes its worth the "risk" of waiting until the last minute to book community fares, you are then screwed if you wanted to fly onwards interstate or anywhere else, as you would be booking and paying "last minute" fares on QF JQ or VA.

Unless you live in SYD its usually more economic to fly to and from BHQ via ADL, as the BHQ-ADL flights are much more reasonably priced, and you can get to a lot of places once you are in ADL with a choice of destinations and airlines..

I have also found that most flight aggregators like Google flights etc will not show last minute Rex community fares, despite them actually being available on the Rex web site for booking.

I've long wanted to go to BHQ but with flights just twice a week, it would've been difficult to. With flights 5 times a week and award availability pretty good (even in early January) now I am seriously considering going at some point in the next year.
