Qantas to increase excess baggage charge for domestic passengers

Although I am not personally planning to put it to the test, I'm curious as to how Qantas' old unofficial rule that "Platinums do not pay excess baggage" will apply going forward....

Does anyone remember when we flew Qantas because it was the aussie airline. We did not believe that other airlines gave better service etc.
Now Qantarse still cannot believe that treating customers with some respect, that giving some service, some pride would make some of us want to fly the aussie airline.
All they seem to do is reduce services.
In these tight times, how long would a capmaign of better services, honest fares(do not mention the fines for price fixing cargo).
All the other airlines are reducing services.
Qantas become the trendsetter, stop the bunker mentality, reduce, not increase the rules and regulations.

Re: Qantas Club Baggage Allowance

Hello,

I am a Qantas Club Bronze member and am soon travelling Sydney/Jakarta. I realise the new baggage allowance is 23 kg but I am unsure as to whether I get an additional 10 kg for being the Qantas Club member. I have searched the Qantas website and couldnt find anything relating specifically to actual amounts allowed, Qantas Club benefits only mention "additional baggage allowance". I called Qantas and was told its -quote "not black & white". I then emailed Qantas and the reply advised me to call telephone sales, so I emailed again and still dont have a response. It would be appreciated if any of you experts may be able to clarify this matter for me.

Thanks

Yes, 32kgs but you can have 2 peices.

Everybody do note they are getting strict ! i saw a few people being warned in the F curbside checkin the other day. (My traveling partners bag weighed 31kgs !!! she explained it was because she was a lady ! the QF check-in guy thought that was really funny)

Anyway i had no issues as i am WP 38kg total max but i can see they wil enforce these limits in future. Already i see a thread or 2 here where people have been charged.

I have been told by check in staff that excess fees will apply to platinum members too beyond the allowed level

Hi,

Thanks for all the messages clarifying the matter of QC Asian international baggage allowance, much appreciated.:p

Sounds like the Qantas board has new members with a background in Banking, They sit around all day wondering how to rip off the customer more.

In the past we have been slugged extra fuel prices, they have sent their engineering maintenance off shore, cutting back on planes, selling off planes, introducing a no frills competitor to Qantas in its Jetstar and now sadley the Qantas is becoming like a Jetstar alternative cheap money grabing company.
What happened to providing a good service, add some cream on top and the customers will like it? What's next coin entry to toilets,
People travelling from Australia to say Europe, what do you take some summer wear for stop over in HK or Singapore, then possibly winter gear in case it gets cold over there, all these add to the weight, so 23 kg should go up to 32kg and give us a fair go, not have to wear three shirts, two jumpers and a coat, to save on baggage weight
Maybe Qantas should merge with Singapore airlines and learn how to provide service.
Thanks

If I am a WP flying J to the USA am I entitled to three bags as long as none of the bags weigh more than 32kg?

If I return via Europe on the same ticket will I get the same allowance for the return trip?

This was possible before the new rules but hope someone can confirm it will still be ok, I don't want to get a large excess baggage bill.

Yes

Yes. If it is all part of a single ticketed itinerary , then the 2PC rule applies the whole way. On Manage My booking , it should say 2 Pieces for each sector

Do be aware that the 32Kg weight limit per bag does not apply on all other carriers. If you are travelling from US-Europe on BA or AA, the weight allowance per bag is 23Kg and you will be charged for overweight bags.. ( Note: if travelling business or 1st class, BA will unofficially allow up to 32 KG per bag without excess )

To clarify, this, it must be part of a single itinerary which may be on more than one ticket. At least one of those tickets must include flight(s) to/from the Americas or US Territories via the Pacific.

Fly - Baggage - Checked Baggage - New Checked Baggage Allowance
Qantas.com said:
^ If your itinerary includes a flight to/from the USA, US Territories, South America and Canada via the Pacific you are entitled to two pieces (one piece for infants) of checked baggage on all Qantas and QantasLink operated flights within your itinerary regardless of whether these flights appear on the same or a separate ticket.
