Qantas to Introduce Group Boarding and Bag Tracking

It's Not about speeding up, its about recognising Status after all the moaning we have done about it not working for years. And now PB works.
You sure about it not looking to speed up boarding times?

"Our 737 and A330 fleets cover most of our Domestic operations and are larger aircraft with most room for improvement of boarding times."

From: QF On Boarding Groups

1 or a few boarding experiences ≠ improvement or non-improvement of boarding times.
I was quoting the expected results from QF to counter that claimed by Ansett - not talking to actual expereinces.

Any experiences with having bookings linked for boarding group purposes at the airport? How easy is it actually to do, say, at the lounge entry?

Extremely easy and very routine for check-in or lounge staff to do.

The contact centre staff can do it as well.

I’ve found most if not all of the lounge staff will do it without being asked given the whole group boarding situation.

Only once have I been told to come back but they easily did it before boarding so not a big deal.

Contact centre staff can also do it and if you don’t won’t to call and wait can send a message via messenger, if doing via the contact centre you won’t notice any difference to the booking until check in time.

Complete fail on QF448 from MEL this arvo. A free for all at the gate. Both lanes boarding at the same time with no regard to groups. When I said that it seemed like everyone is a group 1 today, the gate agent just said “Looks like it” with a little laugh.

If the staff don’t care, what’s the point?

Um isn't that the staffs fault, they clearly couldn't be bothered following the process so don't use the group boarding feature that they an in the system.

Very ordinary for a MEL-SYD. I hope you submitted feedback.

I thought the machine pings lower groups and prevents them boarding? I’ve seen plenty of peeps directed to stand aside to wait their turn.

Unless the flight was at risk of being delayed and they can bypass priority boarding to just create a free for all?

Out of 7 DOM flight so far this year I have never seen the TV display what numbers are boarding.
A good idea when you cant hear anything above the racket.

Do the group numbers change colour or flash or something?
When its working, one of the screens does show current boarding group. I think its ticks next to the group number and red stops next to the ones not boarding yet.

I've just been reminded again how insanely efficient the Japanese airlines are at boarding. Boarding 788 20mins before departure. All but 1 pax boarded within 15mins.( Last pax held the departure late by 7 mins cuz they found them and faster to wait than start unloading sequence).

Contrast with QF boarding in HKG, took 35mins to board a 333.

Well it's consistently 23 minutes to board and depart a B737 and A330 domestically in Australia for Qantas. An extra 3 minutes doesn't really make it less efficient.

It was absolutely the staff’s fault. They have a system to work with, which they chose not to. I spoke to the CSM and she would pass on feedback (as will I). We both agreed that MEL are usually pretty good.

The machine didn’t complain about any BPs, and I caught a glimpse of a few who were not gp 1 or 2 ahead of me.
