Qantas to move to new Perth Airport terminal, expand Perth hub

New CEO clearing out non-core distractions. Perth Airport had been a long running pointless waste of effort - especially given the location of the “new” airport train station and everyone else being on the other side of the runway.

Alliance Airlines takeover and China Eastern codeshare dropped - two arguments with the ACCC that were again distractions.

I predict an “apology” to the baggage handlers and a pay-out (I.e a once of hit) but they ain’t ever coming back to direct Qantas employment (I.e they can’t go on strike and blackmail Qantas ever again).

If Project Sunrise actually works all Heathrow slots will be used by SYD/MEL/BRI departures. They will probably need more A350-1000 ULR’s to service CDG from the east coast otherwise they re-deploy the PER-LHR to PER-CDG.

I‘m not holding my breathe for any of this.

Qantas has 4 slots at Heathrow. They've already said that they'd use them for the current 1 stop flights + MEL/SYD-LHR sunrise non stop flights.

Have I misread previous posts here? I believe QF starts seasonal (4 times a week) direct CDG from PER with a 787 from 12 July 24. Has this changed?

Perth radio is reporting that Jetstar will move to Terminal 1/2 in a few weeks, so Qantas can accommodate the new Paris flights and launch more international destinations from T3/4. South east Asia was mentioned (Jakarta perhaps?).

The Jetstar move would simplify domestic connections to its upcoming Perth-SE Asia flights (Bangkok and coughet I think).

It’s also a step toward QF eventually moving to T1/2, which is the looooooong term plan.

Not sure I follow how this simplifies things?

All JQ ops moving to T1/T2? So JQ to JQ is easier but all JQ to QF become harder?

Yes, that needs to happen sooner than later. It’ll actual make PER the most practical airport in the country.

I tend to agree with you .easier? Mmmm. And not if you fly VA or QR from lovely T1. Hate the idea of QF (eventually) and JQ being there...scruffing it up ..,😉

I don't follow this logic. T3/T4 isn't that busy that it can't handle the Paris flight needing to move JQ domestic elsewhere.

The biggest problem QF will have at T3/T4 international flights will be lounge crowding. The international lounge is big enough to handle the pax for one flight only. Any more and it will be standing room.

JQ moving also stops their pax using QF lounges in T4 which I feel QF try their best to stop happening.

T2 is basically a mini version of MEL T4, food court with a few gates.

JQ aircraft won’t need to be towed across the runway to change from T1-T2 which should help their A321 base.

Maybe they are giving up on the idea of moving to T1/2 any time soon and want to substantially increase capacity out of T3/4?

Isn’t the T3 intl issue also lack of space for immigration/ customs ie “high risk” destinations such as indo arnt permitted
Moving JQ won’t solve that

What? Like triple the number of flights? T3/T4 really isn't that busy that a few JQ flights a day are causing gate issues.

I wonder if something might be cheaper in terms of airport costs for JQ to move across?

T3/T4 needed bulldozing 10+ years ago and it’s not improving with age!

The VA move to the new pier was a breath of fresh air. A new QF pier over at T1 is long overdue - oh, and a train station from the CBD awaits! MEL, ADL and WSI take note.

Yes, when travelling last week on QF10 in J, were directed to the domestic business until QF71 Per-Sin passengers left the international lounge to board their aircraft.

Then staff in the domestic business announced pax's travelling on Qf10 could relocate to the international lounge.
