Qantas to Remove Domestic Boarding Pass Printing from Kiosks

But I was logged into my QFF account, as the booking is in the MMB.
If I didn't enter my QFF # number, I would not have been able to go through with the booking to burn my points though.
Anyway, its now my turn to feel and see the QFd J MEL lounge for myself.
Though, (hopefully) its open between new year eve this year and new years day next year.
yes, but on your QF App on your PHONE were you logged into your QFF account also? It's fine you can see it on the website, but you also need to be logged in to your QFF account on your app for the bookings to sync (the key is the FF#).

Now true, there are rare occasions when the sync does not happen instantly after booking, but I have found a refresh usually does the job.

also remember to make sure your app store (google play) is updating the apps for you to be sure you are running the latest version of te QF App.

Put it this way. What Qantas is doing is the equivalent of supermarkets taking the ability to pay cash from checkouts, except by finding a rare person who might be findable or not.

Everyone has a credit card, right? So what’s the problem?

good analogy. I like it.

Just the other day I had my 85 year old father text me (something her has enormous trouble with) to say he wanted help because he wants to go to a 50 year reunion event at his University. But, they "don't take cheques" (who does these days) and I'd probably be happy to pay cash, but it's all onoine. He claimed he and his (slightly more savvy) friend tried to navigate the University website to figure it out, but were lost so he was annoyed and frustrated. I suggested he call them to sort it out. Guess what - no phone number or anything (though I am sure he could have eventually called the Alumni office or something and got hold of someone, but point is it's been put to all online). Now, sure, I found the event webpage with one Google, and a "Register" button in about 20 seconds, and pointed them to this to fill in and then pay online with CC (which the friend has, but not my father who believes in cash and cheques and thinks plastic is some sort of dark magic)....

so my point being... we know this is the way of the world these days, and it's fine to think sure ignore an 85 year old bugger who doesn't "get it" but these are EXACTLY the kinds of customers QF is going to annoy in exactly the same way (but not to worry, my father couldn't book a ticket of course and seems to not want to fly anywhere .. unless he can use a cheque !)

if someone can do OLCI and/or print at home then this is not an issue for them imo.. and they're probably at least partially tech savvy. This isn't the group being affected by these changes.

My mother-in-law is reasonably tech savvy for her age (60's) but just has an attitude that she doesn't want to carry electronics with her. She has a tablet and PC at home and would be fine doing OLCI and printing off a BP, but refuses to carry a mobile phone or anything else of that nature (she doesn't even have a flip phone). There are some people out there like this... but she does at least know she's in the minority and is happy to plan extra time to line up at a service counter if required.

Fortunately they haven’t removed the BP print function for International departures.
Do you mean that the new kiosk can still print boarding pass, and does it for international flight?

No, aren’t they different kiosks at QFi departures?

Perhaps the thread title should have been corrected months ago.

These kiosks are ONLY for domestic bag tag printing now. The former ones I don't know if they did international connections.. I am thinking not with needing to swipe/check passports/documents etc.

IIRC there's never been kiosks for QF international? (JQ yes, I recall kiosks at SYD international, and some other carriers use them - NZ comes to mind, but I digress).

These new one are really just supporting bag drop (print bag tags for those who dont have smart tags). They really should have keep a couple of self-checkin kiosks (maybe pinch some from T1)....

SYD T1 has a bunch of QFi self-check kiosks and bag drop stations. Been there since pre-Covid.

There's some at SIN Early Check in as well - in fact last month they were the only option at Jewel.
Are those common use kiosks or the actual QF hardware?

also I didn't know re SYD T1 - thanks for that. Don't think they have any at MEL T2 (international) for QF so I did kinda assume re other ports.

and irony is probably the older set of pax would be the most likely to hold that "legacy" loyalty to the airline's brand as opposed to the tiktok types who are far more comfy to book BFOD, go JQ, VA, Bonza, whathaveyou

and yes, these are generalisations I am aware.
you've reminded me of a conference I organised 10 yeras ago, where the option of a twitter hashtag for asking questions was introduced, the 'older' person who protested the most about allowing E-questions, was also the first person to ask a question using the hashtag

lol

Common use (IIRC MAS, QF, SQ among them), but QF have a bag drop (after using the machines) until 2:30pm.
and here’s a picture.

Don’t have one of the QF kiosks at SYD T1 but they ripped out an entire checkin bay opposite the QF F/J desks and installed kiosks and bag drops about 4 yrs ago.

thanks all for the pictures and things. While I think International (for now?!) is out of the scope of this thread, I AM interested in somewhere like OOL with its common use terminals/kiosks. IIRC at OOL the QF existing interface (which I assume on these terminals is more a link to a web portal than actually running on the local terminal) is the same interface as on the "legacy" (now being removed) QF dom kiosks.. so I wonder what the future will be for these type setups - will QF continue to support this functionality or not?

I realise this is a minor case of one airport (do any other oz dom terminals have a similar setup? None that I can think of) but it may end up that OOL will be an anomaly of sorts so be interesting to see what QF does. I presume OOL airport support the hardware of the common use terminals so the costs to QF may be minimal to keep, apart from potentially keeping their "legacy" portal available.

yes, I like to ponder these things :D

Yes, I remember using them a few years back on my previous nationality passport and it goes ok all the way, until the final step and will ask me to see a Qantas staff to complete check-in. I did this twice and then I always queue up, regardless for international.

Happened to me at WLG a few years ago, (pre covid), used the kiosk thinking I could do it, but nope, it gave me that soft papery piece of paper to see a staff member.
Had put my Aust passport flat into the slot for it too.

Sorry, bit late after that q/comment, but yep, did log into my QFF on the app, directly checked there after making the booking.
