It seems to me this 'nip & tuck' keeps more of the Roo on the tail, and creates a 'base' for the roo to 'stand' on should the fuselage scheme alter.

The need for a facelift does come from modern tail design. Apparently, if you stuck the current roo on an A380, it ends up looking as though it has been amputated.
