Qantas Trans-Tasman Business Class

I've noticed this was done on a recent BNE-PER-BNE TransCon 737. Not sure if this was limited to those specific flights or a QF requirement.
I haven't seen it now for quite a while.

On the VA trans-Tasman flight I mention above, whenever the coughpit door was opened for the CSM to take or remove food, another member of the crew just came and stood in the galley facing the pax. But no blockage as such. I don't recall either pilot leaving the coughpit either.

has to be the worst menu and food I’ve encountered on QF.

It's getting pretty dire.

I did SYD-AKL and vv in J over the weekend. Heading over I was going to eat, but stopped at the starter.

I think it would have potentially been quite nice if it wasn't swimming in oil:

Coming back and looking at the options (pea and ham soup, toasted ham and cheese sandwich, and a couple of other equally unappealing items) I was glad I ate in the Emirates lounge. I did not eat on that flight and all but about 3 people in the J cabin skipped the meal service.

Not that it should matter, but 737s or A330s? Were pre-meal drinks offered?

Fish (raw, seared or as a hot main) used to be pretty reliable on most menus. Sadly doesn't seem to be the case anymore. That said, had a decent tuna nicoise ex-PER last week, which I'll post in relevant thread.

The main I had coming back from CHC was pretty poor; the toasted sanga sounded good but it literally contained some chicken and cheese, with nothing for flavour.

A330 over, 737 back.

I haven't seen pre-meal drinks offered for a while but I always make a point of explicitly asking for one when the meal orders are taken on the ground or straight after takeoff. It has always been successful and I enjoy sipping on my wine while getting curious looks from other passengers.

I've taken to doing this too. If most of the A330 cabin does likewise (as it has on two of my recent flights) it ends up being far more of a hassle for the crew I reckon, and a real time-waster.

If it was too much hassle I'm sure they'd bring back doing a quick run down the aisle with the drinks trolley before commencing the meal service.

Works well for me as I actually skip the meal service the majority of the time. By the time other pax are getting their starters and placing their initial drink orders my glass is usually ready for a top up of wine :)

Another data point. On QF149 SYD-AKL last night Mrs Rugby and I were the only ones, that I could see (2 E/F) that were offered a predinner bevy. Both WPs. This was by the CSM and came direct from the galley - no trolley run prior to dinner. There were comments about short flight time 2hrs 40min. Good CSM and we were looked after - it was a full cabin.

Interesting. Pity it's not extended to all J pax, let alone this humble WP1

Flew the MEL-AKL redeye a couple of weeks ago. A330. Y was full. J had about 8 of us.

Very quick and efficient service from the J crew. Food -- and drink -- orders taken while still on the ground.

Menu:

I tried asking for a 'completely personalised experience' - ie, could I wait for an hour and see if I wanted anything. Response: "Um, no. We serve supper only after takeoff". And breakfast? "Not sure about breakfast. Just supper". Hilarious.

Wasn't too hungry but ordered the chicken. Came just a few minutes after takeoff. Was actually pretty good:

Amenity kit provided. Crew really did a good job of getting the service done quickly. But also walked through the cabin regularly. Breakfast did not seem to be proactively offered. I had a coffee just before descent and had to ask about food. Was offered - but declined - a scone.

Final minor irritant was that Y pax were disembarking before the J pax.

Reasonable flight

QF146 AKL-SYD on 28/1. Had meal order taken on the ground before any others that I could see (WP sitting in row 3).

Pre dinner drinks trolley out for all passengers.

Menu AKL-MEL 12:15 flight. A330 service.

Crew was pretty good. Meal order taken after takeoff. No proactive drink offer, and no trolley. I asked for a pre-lunch drink. Seemed like a few behind me did too as about 5 minutes later a FA came round with several drinks on a tray.
