I just received a "Qantas Travel Pass" via email for a sort-of-refund. Anyone seen those before, I coulnd't find traces on this forum nor on internet.

I had a domestic classic award J that I had to This corresponds to a domestic Y classic reward refund I initiated on the website 1 month ago.

And the T&Cs:

Qantas TravelPass conditionsYour TravelPass is valid until the expiry date shown.

Your TravelPass can only be redeemed on qantas.com or through your local Qantas office (booking fees may apply).

If you don't use your Qantas TravelPass, you can request a refund. You'll need to request the refund prior to using your Qantas TravelPass and before the expiry date. Any remaining value on your TravelPass not used before the expiry date is non-refundable and will be forfeited (except in certain circumstances including under the Australian Consumer Law).

Your TravelPass is non-transferable and may not be sold, traded or bartered.

Your TravelPass is non-returnable and may not be redeemed for cash, cheque or credit, except where required by law.

Your TravelPass is issued in the currency as displayed. If you'd like to use your credit for a booking in another currency, you may be charged a currency conversion fee.

Your TravelPass is issued in the name of the person who paid for the original booking and will be emailed to the primary booking contact provided at the time of booking. It's your responsibility to obtain the consent of the person who paid for the original booking to convert your flight booking or Flight Credit to a TravelPass.

Except where prohibited by law, we may, at our discretion for reasons including but not limited to mistaken issuance, fraudulent use or breach of these terms and conditions, cancel, void, reject, modify or reissue a TravelPass.

Your TravelPass will not be accepted as a form of payment if the TravelPass number is invalid or cannot be identified.

Your TravelPass is valuable. It's important to keep these details safe and secure. We're not liable for the loss or theft of a TravelPass or the unintended use of a TravelPass by a person other than the recipient. If you lose your TravelPass details, contact your local Qantas office as soon as possible.

Is this a new thing?

I had a domestic classic award J that I had to change to a Y due to the constant change of schedule and airplan type. The Qantas consultant was top notch, and without asking, looked at fare and points difference, refunded me the point within 24h, and a week later, here is my money back, nicely packaged as a "Qantas Travel Pass"

Hi Chris
I rang Qantas yesterday and converted a credit I had from an aborted NZ trip and transferred the double status credit conditions that were in the original trip. So yeah I’m happy now, just hope I can get the same trip for the same dollars down the track and there are no hidden nasties with these cards.

Do you know if you need to travel within the original double SC period? I think it was up to 14 Feb 2021, to get 2xSC?

The travel pass expires 31-12-22 and so does the double status credit deal so I’m good with that. Maybe that’s the trade off for agreeing to the card which I think cannot be refunded, (unless I have that wrong).

The last DSC travel period expired on 14 February 21, as ChrisMars pointed out. Did Qantas tell you (and, if so, confirm in writing) that the DSC travel period has been extended to the end of 2022?

I'm waiting on a refund from a cancelled DSC international trip, but if this booking had the DSC offer kept active until the end of 2022, then I'd be willing to consider keeping it as a credit instead.

I got told the TravelPass can be used to pay the tax for reward bookings. Hope that is true as that is the reason I took the TravelPass with the +10% in value.

This is what we found out when we talked to QF on the 1st.

The travel pass is only for those who have cancelled flights or waiting on refunds. You may fall into the category if you have a travel credit, but it really depends on when your flight is cancelled. If you have several cancellations you cannot roll it into one travel pass - we were going to do that.

You have the option when you set the pass up for one of three things.
1. Double Status Credits.
2. Double QF Points.
3. 10 % extra flight value, so if you have $100 in cancelled flights then you get $110. - please note the credit card fee you pay is not included in any of the travel credit value, so you may of paid $105 for your flight and $5 of that was CC fee, you are not getting that $5 in your credit bank.

You must choose one of the three options when you set up the travel bank and you cannot change it. You have 48 hrs to change your mind when you put your account into one of these states.

You have until Dec 31 2022 to use the travel credit by. Not sure if you have to travel by this date either.

The Travel Bank goes to the main person booking, so if several people on the booking all have to agree to go to the one persons name - generally the booker.

The Travel Bank is not limited to who was named on the original ticket. This means you can have a cancelled ticket for one person, but use that booking for several people. You may of had several people on the booking originally again you can use that credit up for one person.

In order to qualify for the bonus options I mentioned above, when you book your new ticket the majority of that ticket must be used by the travel bank. I am not sure on what the % is here or it must be all of the ticket cost. So if you have $1000 in travel bank and your new ticket is $100 then you would have to use all of the $100 from that travel bank pass. However if your travel bank has say $100 and you book a $1000 ticket, as long as you use up all the travel bank for that $100 then you can get the bonus. Qantas is basically trying to stop people rorting the system by using a travel bank and choosing say double status and only using $50 a time out of their travel bank for 2022.

Remember the travel bank will be per your original booking number, so some people may have several travel banks! As far as i can tell if you want to use two travel banks on one booking you would have to call Qantas, However you would most likely not be able to do double status and double points if you were thinking of that because the booking would be manual intervention.

Here is my email from QF after I accepted pushing mine to double SC. (sorry bout the format it came across weird)

Hello Mistress,
Thanks for opting in to convert your flight booking or Flight Credit to a QantasTravelPass with our double Status Credits offer.
Once your Qantas TravelPass has been issued, we’ll email you with all the information you need about how to use it. Please allow up to three weeks to receive your QantasTravelPass and retain this email for any future queries. Check the latest travel restrictions and important information before you make a booking.
You’ve chosen to earn double Status Credits on eligible flights* for all passengers booked when using your Qantas TravelPass. This offer is available on an unlimited number of eligible flights provided:
  • A new eligible flight booking is made before the expiry date shown on the QantasTravelPass,
  • Booked passengers travel on any Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number*,
  • Your Qantas TravelPass is used as the payment method for the majority of the booking, or the total remaining value of your Qantas TravelPass is used towards the booking, and
  • All passengers have their Qantas Frequent Flyer number included in the booking.
Bonus Status Credits will be credited to the Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts up to six weeks after travel.
Qantas may, at its discretion for reasons including but not limited to fraudulent use, cancel, modify or reissue your Qantas TravelPass, and cancel bonus Status Credits.
The fare conditions from your original flight booking no longer apply. Any remaining value on your Qantas TravelPass not used before the expiry date (31 December 2022) is non-refundable and will be forfeited (except in certain limited circumstances including under the Australian Consumer Law). Read the full terms and conditions of the QantasTravelPass.
Is the person who paid for your original flight booking not you? By opting in you confirm that the person who paid agrees to convert the flight booking or Flight Credit to a Qantas TravelPass.
If you change your mind and would like a refund, please do not reply to this email but instead, simply contact us within 48 hours of receiving this email by calling 13 13 13 in Australia or your local Qantas office.
Kind regards
Qantas

Very interesting! Now you have DSC on tap :)

My pass was an auto conversion, so I was not asked what I wanted, but I can request a refund according to the T&Cs in my email. I'll call on Monday to see if by asking for a refund they will give me some options.... I would love to have DSC available up to end 2022!
I also have a voucher hanging around, the PNR has a DSC on it, but only until mid-Feb 2021. Having almost requal, this voucher is now completely useless. I'll try to see if asking a refund triggers a DSC travelpass. Thanks @Mistress great info.

Waiting for some NZ flights that are likely to be cancelled as travel restrictions won't be lifted any time soon - will be interested to see if I get this travel pass option as they were booked under DSC.

Same here - mine is an international booking over the Christmas holidays...

I got told the TravelPass can be used to pay the tax for reward bookings. Hope that is true as that is the reason I took the TravelPass with the +10% in value.

Looks like I got told some wrong information as the TravelPass cannot be used for RewardFlights. Just did a Reward booking and the TravelPass cannot be selected (grayed out and when hovering with the mouse over it it says 'not available for Points bookings'). After a quick Facebook chat with Qantas, I got told that is correct and the TravelPass can only be used to pay for cash fares.

Thanks for this thread, I've had some missed calls that I didn't recognise, after searching online I found it was Qantas. So I called them back. The person I spoke to said it was probably related to a travel pass, instead of a refund as per above.
It sounds interesting, we are very fortunate in not needing the refund immediately, so this may be a good option for us if the time period is long enough. However decisions will need to be made as well all the conditions examined, sigh.
I just wish people would leave messages!

I'm watching this with interest, as I have DSC flights SYD/HNL/SYD over Xmas which has yet to be cancelled by QF (but I kow it will be). Id love the option to get a travel pass with DSC out til end of 2022, cause then I might actually get a chance to earn the DSC.

My complicating factor will be the fare was booked via Amex to utilise the $450 annual travel credit - so I wonder if my only option will be a refund via Amex for the cash component and a reinstatement of the travel credit - or a full fare travel pass.

According to Executive Traveller, some people have been offered a 10% (or 20%) bonus credit AND double status credits. Anyone had an experience being offered both?

Rang up yesterday to follow up a refund request I submitted three months ago. Was told immediately that the refund would be processed within two or three business days. (Maybe it's standard operating procedure for Qantas to wait until the customer follows up before initiating the refund?) I asked about the travel pass and - after confirming that the travel pass could be used for multiple bookings - took up the offer of double status credits on the travel pass instead of the refund. Great, happy with that, win-win for both Qantas (they keep my money) and me (I get DSCs until the end of 2022).

So a couple of minutes after hanging up, I get an email saying that my travel pass was being processed. A few minutes after that, I get another email saying that my refund was being processed. No idea which of these (or neither??) I'll get.

Feels like there is a fair bit of confusion and lack of training for this new travel pass. I called to ask a cash refund instead of the travel pass I automatically received. I was told that the refund request was already in the system since early August, and that I should call back at the 10 weeks mark. I couldn't get a clear answer when I asked: I know I asked for a cash refund via the website, why am I receiving this travel pass that I didn't request, and how is that compatible with my refund.

Maybe Ill get both too?

Hang on, if TravelPass is a UATP card, that would mean you don't have to use it on Qantas - UATP is an airline owned payment network accepted by 260 of the world's airlines, and any number of travel agencies and hotels. In theory, you could book a flight on Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific if you felt so inclined, provided it's actually a UATP like they're saying. Qantas is a UATP issuer (though no one has ever actually seen a Qantas UATP card) so it is possible.

The terms and conditions do state that the TravelPass can only be redeemed on qantas.com or through your local Qantas office.
