Qantas trials 'all day check-in' for international flights

This is interesting, will definitely try it next time then!
Once I was there at 8.30am'ish and I was told the spa wasn't open until 9am. Maybe they only open at 8am if they have bookings from F pax.?
I was told they had moved to an earlier opening because they had more morning flights. We were able to book at 8:30 in June last year and I thought maybe it was because we were in F but when we got there it looked open for general business. In August we booked for 8am. I do like the Spa!

In May, the SYD F lounge spa was open at 8am.

Given that QF127 departs at 9.50am at some times of the year, a 9am opening would be pushing it for those F pax who are eligible for said booking.
For the 11.25am departure at other times, a 9am opening would probably be OK...

Yes we were on QF127 in August with a 9:50 departure, so 9am would have been very rushed. we checked in a bit after 7am which gave plenty of time for breakfast and a treatment at 8 and then a bit of quiet time before boarding. (Not such a quiet time, as by the time we finished at the spa the lounge was buzzing).

Friends

Is this trial still in operation for ex-SYD flights ?

Thanks

Hi All

Just an update on this that I thought you may all like.

I have just had a conversation with P1 team and found it most informative. The trial is still continuing and has been deemed a great success for both customers and QF. QF would like to continue with this however it is down to the Landlord as to whether they will allow it, SACL, it appears that nothing can be changed not even the content and manner of boarding calls with out the approval of SACL, This is something I was not aware of.

Took the opportunity to discuss Melbourne and why it is not offered here and again ot comes down to the need to negotiate with each airport corporation for approval.

QF advised that it is something that they are interested in doing in other ports but they need to negotiate with each Landlord so not as easy as it may first appear. Therefore and this is only my view and with no input from QF, I would suggest if they can pull it off in Sydney and get approval then that would set a precedent and hopefully make it easier to introduce into other ports.

Happy flying everyone :D

Interesting update.

It's unclear what requirements or problems SACL would have with it.

I guess if you can check in 12hrs in advance you can leave the airport (ie. spend money elsewhere whereas @ 3hrs you are a captive audience.

Still, that would be pretty pathetic if that's the reason.

Other issues I guess would relate to baggage holding, security provisions, expected passenger traffic flows etc.

You'd think they'd have enough info by now to make a decision.....

I can see the negotiation with airport authorities to be a key step in these kinds of changes. I didn't see them as being these kinds of strong handcuffs.

I am flying QF9 next week, so does this mean I can come and check in late morning and grab breakfast AND a late lunch in the first lounge? :D Or has the trial finished?

Spoke to the premium line a few days ago and they indicated yes if you're WP.

Will be using it for the 11 next week.

Flying out to Tokyo tonight.

Does anyone know if all day check in is still going.

Did they give an end date by any chance? I just spoke to them and they didn't seem to think it was still running.
But I got the impression that the agent wasn't really sure.

Anyone know for sure whether this is still an option? I'm flying to NZ next week (OW Emerald but not QF) and would like to check-in bags in the morning for my flight in the afternoon at SYD. I didn't see an official update anywhere. Is there a phone number for SYD Intl check-in that I could call?

I phoned Qantas a short time ago and asked if the all day check-in was still available at SYD T1. The agent said no, it's three hours. I asked when the trial ended. She said it's always been three hours. I asked her to check with someone else. A hold for all of 10 seconds before she returned and said it's three hours, "we've got people here who've been around for 25 years and have never heard of all day check-in".

So there you have it. Apparently it never existed to begin with.

Pathetic.

Frankly I think any of you thinking about "confirming" this "benefit" with Qantas are wasting your time.

As long as any flights are being checked in and there are people at the F desk, I'd say just turn up and try your luck. If you get the right agents, then you'll always succeed. If you get the wrong agents, you'll never succeed. That's not just with Qantas in Sydney, for that matter, and applied even before this "trial".

A little politeness to the staff and a non-demanding, no expectations, non-threatening disposition also works surprisingly well.

It is indeed still operating.

I just had a 25 minute conversation with an extremely helpful Nicole at the premium desk in Melbourne who confirmed (after much research) that the trial is still running.

Thank you. I just had our corporate TA confirm with QF and they came back and said as long as you are QF Silver or higher (and OW equivalent) you can still use the all day check-in in Sydney. Let's hope it will work and not depend on the agent on the day...

you've got to love that kind of response from so called '25 year' employees of Qantas. What a joke!

I don't see myself checking in that early and then lounging around at airport.

Would be very different though if Qantas had downtown checkin, like CX in HKG.
