If I already have a Platinum Edge card and cancel to then sign up for the Ultimate card, will I still get the 50k bonus points?

I can't see why not. I think many people have done that before, but you should be aware of the consequences - an entry on your credit record and you might not get the same credit limit.

Does anyone know about the discovery card (lowest end card). Is it correct to say that there is a free 7,500 QFF Points and all you have to do is run $300 through the card. Then you can discontinue the card after you get the points?

Yep. But I don't know why you'd bother discontinuing the card when it's fee-free...

Already have an ANZ Platinum Amex that has a higher points reward rate then this card :D

To get 2,500 of the 7,500 QFF points, you need to purchase a QF flight.
Yeah it is a card I have, ok it is only 1:1 for points, but considering it is fee free and now you can attach a AMEX to your paypal and certain bills that don't accept AMEX but allow you pay via postpay which usually accepts paypal which thus will take your AMEX... Anyway it is a good backup card to have.

Has anyone actually got this card having had a previous amex card? I had the discovery card (and david jones) too. The t&c's make reference to points only being given to new american express card holders unlike previous t&c's i've seen which refer to the specific card. It'd be a lot of money to spend to not get the points

You can never have too many credit cards! :D
Depends how they are used or abused.

Unless it makes it harder to sign up for more in the future and you need to close a few...
Do not believe everything they tell you.

If the points are not paid then cancel the card and ask for a pro-rata refund of the annual fee if not a full refund.

I was offered a DJ's card some years ago with bounus points at sign up, about 30k from memory, they came through no problem.

I held a Plat Charge at the time, so no issue for me with the DJ's points at sign up.

Will also try this card for the bonus points also......

Rang Amex yesterday and was given these 'rules'.
If you have had an AMEX card (not a bank card branded AMEX) within the last 12 months the points offer does not apply. Exclusions are Supplementary card holder and Corporate cards.

I keep getting knocked back for these cards despite meeting income thresholds. Funny enough when I applied for a non 'bonus points' card, got approved within the day...
