Qantas Upgrades - Successes or Failures (post results)

Has the re-ticketing been completed yet? Sometimes there are issues with requesting upgrades on pending tickets. I'd ask the agent to confirm ticketing is done and in which specific fare bucket/s, and then give it another try.

Cheers,
Matt.
Spot on Matt! I checked and it had not re-ticketed and now all is well, thank you!

I have just received an email from QF changing my December 6 flight. QF9 from MEL-PER no longer exists! Not on any day! I have no idea what is going on? Just yesterday I changed an AKL connection in March next year to reinstate QF9 MEL-PER. I am flumoxed. I also have a Jan 6 booking on QF9 MEL-PER.
(You can see I absolutely want to use the First Class Lounge rather than domestic J lounge!)
Well it does exist, they just appear to be cutting the domestic leg. It's still available on Dec 6 PER-LHR but MEL-PER is no longer there

Yes, that’s what I said. “QF9 from MEL-PER no longer exists!”. I was not commenting on QF9 PER-LHR.

Even booking MEL-LHR gives different flight numbers for the domestic leg now. It would seem the 787 is staying in Perth for the return journey at the moment.

QF9 MEL-PER doesn't appear to run daily any more from 8 Nov, but it's still operating on Mon, Fri, Sat, Sun. (Ignore the pricing in the screenshots, it just shows that there are tickets for sale).

Can confirm I can still see seats for sale 1662689853908.png

Thank you. I didn’t check that far away. We are pretty well off topic now. Perhaps a new thread about what is happening to QF9 itineraries? What is the 787 doing midweek? Have flight to LHR been reduced?

Thu 8/9 QF445 SYD-MEL & QF35 MEL-SYD - Not eligible to request, according to the app (and no option available on the website MMB). Asked about a possibility for an upgrade at the MEL check-in but the agent told they can't process them there. Economy.

Mon 12/9 QF2 SIN-SYD request economy saver -> business successful. Noticed at T-23 hours when doing online check-in but in fact QF had already sent an email about it the day before.

I recently booked on QF741 in N, for a schedule I could see had U seats open. I requested the upgrade immediately, but it's not been granted. WP

You’ll need to wait until the booking is ticketed before you put in the request, else it will waitlist until closer to the flight date, regardless of U inventory.

Once ticketing is confirmed for your booking, cancel the upgrade request, and put it back in. Presuming there is still U fares available, it should confirm at that point.

Cheers,
Matt.

Thu 15/09 - QF941 BNE-PER Y->J Unsuccessful.

Flight was packed. Probably could have sold tickets to ride in the overhead lockers tbh.

I put in request to upgrade my return flights to Melbourne on 23/10 to 28/10 using QFF points.

The site says it’ll be confirmed immediately if there are available seats. I didn’t get any sms so does that mean there are no seats available?

What does it mean when a few posts above says I should wait until the flights have been ticketed? Both flights are visible on my account when I put in the upgrade request.

If there are upgrade seats available on the flight/s, which we can determine by looking at availability in certain fare buckets (e.g. 'U' class for business on QF), then if the booking is ticketed before you put in the request, then it should confirm for the flight/s where that is the case, right away after requesting. Did you want to share the flight numbers and dates and I can check?

23/10 QF 487 19.00 - 20.35
28/10 QF 460 13.30 - 14.55

Presumably what you can check is different to what Qantas is showing as available for classic reward business flights on their website?

It should be the same... and unfortunately neither flight has anything in the U fare bucket for your booking. That said, there is plenty of availability in 'I' for the outbound flight, so that's a good chance of upgrading closer to the departure date if it stays light. The inbound is looking less likely, but still a chance with fares down to 'D'.

Thanks for the reply.

So presumably the D and I seats will get released just before take off to people who request to upgrade if they’re not bought by cash by others?

Might be released, might not. You do see vacant J seats even with somewhat fuller Y cabins. So, you can hope for the release but it's far from guaranteed.

QFF Silver status on QF10 PER-MEL Full fare Y-to-J flying 2/10 classic upgrade confirmed at T-40

(that seems incredibly early - and caught me unawares - when I woke up and did seat selection just now there were 9 J seats to choose from)
