Qantas upgrades SYD-JNB to A380 service

QF are likely using Etihad engineering to do the refurbishment of the spare A380 because its cheaper than the original plan to use Airbus in Dresden before COVID.
QF used Abu Dhabi before COVID as well for some refurbishment. They were using both to get it done quicker.

It wouldn’t be a stupid decision for QF to reverse the retirements of VH-OQE and OQF. As other members on this forum have pointed out; there has been significant computer activity recorded from both of these airframes currently at VCV. I reckon it’s the right decision to bring back these airframes to ease the severe and intense constraints and requirements the current QF international fleet is under.
They're not coming back. They're being parted out. Here's their state as of ~4 months ago: KVCV | Airport | Ramp | Bastian Ding | JetPhotos

Haven’t they already started to be stripped?
Regardless I’d say zero chance that it has even been considered. They simply have to work with what they’ve got even if that means trimming frequencies or routes
Agree.

Namibia is sounding popular this year :) We're going with World Expeditions on the African Wildlife Safari departing Vic Falls on Sunday Aug 4, arriving into CPT via Zambia, Botswana and Namibia on Aug 19

Looking forward to that TR with interest.

I've been trying to lock something in for next August/September and all I keep getting is this nonsense :mad:Screenshot 2024-10-04 202316.jpg

Looks like it's only Classic+ basically from 05/06/25

I had a similar experience last year for travel SYDJNB. Unable to secure a J reward seat at a reasonable "price". I reluctantly settled for a PY seat at 71100 pts for the 14 hrs flt. A week or so later, I accidentally discovered that reward J seats were now available for 94900 pts ( vs 320000+ previously ). Unable to "upgrade" online, I contacted the QF call center. With a minimum of fuss I was upgraded to J paying only the 23800 pts and $40.40 fees difference.

An interesting aside. This morning I randomly selected a date for OW travel SYDJNB for early next year. The QF website shows that on 12 Feb 2025, a J reward classic plus seat on the A380 svc will cost 372300 pts + $432 while on the same flt, a F classic reward will set you back just 142300 pts and $272.
