Hi Everyone,

I have $1000 voucher sitting in My Bookings in QFF login.. it is expiring at the end of this month..

I dont have any travel to book in the next few days so am trying to figure out ways to extend the voucher...

Any great ideas?

Thanks
Fuzz

Book a fully flex ticket to MEL, then cancel that and hold onto the credit?

Thanks djfuzz

Thought that might be the option, wasnt sure if it reset the dates or not

Cheers

It won't work, the new ticket will have the same validity date as the voucher. When you use a voucher you are effectively just rebooking your old ticket (less the change fee), you're not buying a brand new ticket outright.

I believed any booking made using a voucher must have travel completed by the same date as the voucher expires. However, I am unable to confirm this.

[h=3]Voucher Conditions[/h]
  • Valid for 12 months from the original booking creation date.
  • If not used within the 12 month validity period, the voucher value will be forfeited unless the original fare permits a refund.
  • Can only be used towards one way or return bookings for travel from or within Australia. Multi-city bookings are not permitted.
  • Are non-transferable. Name changes are not permitted.
  • Can be redeemed for any Qantas operated flight at qantas.com/yourbooking.
  • Any Change fees that were applicable to the original booking apply when redeeming the voucher.
  • Can only be used towards a fare of equal or higher value.
  • A Service fee will apply for vouchers redeemed through Qantas Telephone Sales.

I have a $500 credit sitting on my desk that expires at the end of the month and no flights planned to be booked. So I was just going to ring to have it turned into points to use as an upgrade down the track. I see on their site $500 = 17,000 points. Although reading this, now I'm not sure if I can do it........

I had a similar problems a couple of years ago. Teaching out west and very limited travel options. I spoke to Qantas, who told me that I could only use it for travel past the expiry date if I booked an international flight with it. Promptly booked a flight to Fiji, flying some months after the expiry date. You would have to check with Qantas if you can still do that, but it certainly worked at the time.

I now try to have no vouchers, having been charged some horrendous fees for changes etc in the past. I now book only when I'm sure that I'm going to fly - might pay a little more, but I'm sure that it saves me money. Of course, that can be difficult with international travel.
