Just noticed in the GDS that Qantaslink are starting to use some of the Alliance Fokker 100s on these routes (and perhaps more).

Good to see more services/seats into these destinations. When the mine shut downs etc are on, flights can be a nightmare!

They have been using the FK100s since September last year when there were issues with the grounding of some of the 400's, now I believe they are using them to help with the expansion of QF link, with ROK and MKY having competition from Jet based flights it makes sense. GLT might get them next.

I've been stuck on a few of the Alliance ROK-BNE flights. Haven't been too impressed overall. Frequently late and the service has been average (no bar on the arvo flights).

I have a flight on an F100 in June BNE-ROK, that was switched from a Dash-8, looking forward to it.

You wouldn't have known that unless I alerted you to the fact

My ROK-BNE last week in a F100 was fully stocked - perhaps they were using the same drink caterers that restock the ROK QP for your flight?
The shortened ROK runway takeoff in the F100 was a head snapper with brakes being released nearing N1 by the sound of it!!:D:D

Having flown on the Fokker 100's heaps of times in PNG (Air Nuigini) i will try and get on one of these for my next trip to Mackay in June. I quite like the 100, although it pays to get a forward seat. Usually in PNG they chuck us white fellas in the front anyway.

I saw a photo of the turbofan out the back window, looked like a good view, in some ways, but would it also be noisier and bumpier back there?

Yes Sam, certainly a lot noisier. One seat to avoid, if it is the same layout as the Air Nuigini planes, is seat 17B. This is near the rear exit door and has a little bulkhead behind it and you cannot recline the seat at all.

You can tell the folks that have not had the pleasure of a DC9 ride (including its MD variants) ;).

DC9 GT (or B717) is still used by Qantaslink, but under their rego callsigns, not Qantaslink.:?:

I've been on 6 or 7 evening flights with them since last year and the bar wasn't offered. I did however get onto Customer Care who tried to tell me that I was wrong, so either I was several times unlucky, or they actually did something about it (without admitting fault, of course)

Our MKYBNE flight next week was changed from a Dash 8 to a Fokker100 last week (along with Qantas sending an email advising the flight was now 5 minutes earlier).

Also happened last time we went to Mackay - 12 to 18 months ago. Alliance crews are friendly and extremely pleasant, the plane was a hell of a lot quieter than a Dash 8 (even in the row with the last window before the jet) and the trip was smooth and quick. Pity we're still on a Dash 8 going up there.

I flew on an F100 ROK-BNE early March 2011 for the first time. The flight and seat were OK but I was not too impressed with the FA's. I do not have high expectations on these flights but it is not nice when the FA's look and behave as if they do not want to be there.

Not sure of the context of your post but I have had the pleasure of flying an AY MD11 in both economy and business class many times and loved the experience.
