Apologies if this has been posted - it has been rumoured for some time that QF were eyeing the Cairns - PNG route with QF Link and it seems to have now been confirmed.

QF have steadily been increasing their capacity and services on the back of the Q400 program both on existing routes and expanding into new areas. Personally I'm a massive fan of QF Link and their staff and I hope they take up some of the options for another 24 Q400s.

QantasLink seeks openings for young fleet

The delivery of the last of the sleek, 74-seat planes in January has been accompanied by a flurry of announcements about new routes and expanded services at the Qantas offshoot.

The regional carrier last week revealed its first overseas foray with an application for capacity between Cairns and Papua New Guinea using one of the Q400s.

Depending on the times of the flights, this could be a good development giving further options to get to POM without using PX.

Yes - especially because PX is on a lot of no-fly lists - including my companies! (Not the worst code though so can be flown with an override - but a QFLink connection will get alot of business from us and I suspect alot of miners)

Bugger, now my bags will go to POM rather than Horn Island on my next trip to DRW via CNS.

Just found this one.

I wonder if PX would cut back services on the CNS-POM route as Qantaslink ramped them up. While demand steadily grows, PX have reduced services on domestic routes and their new timetable shows five scheduled F100s, down from six. The other has joined its cannibalised friends on the tarmac at POM.

PX also announced several months ago it was aiming to buy its own Q400s, see

Have heard nothing more since

Cheers skip

Fantastic aircraft, never liked the other Dash things, however I have found I always feel safe in one of these aricraft.

I remember the old Fokker Frienships that East West used to fly, for some reason the same feeling of security.

The Scandanavians had alot of problems with them, but that probably says more about them.....landing gear for memory?

anyone????

thats good news for me...
Good news for me too... hopefully the timings will be good. I have to wait in POM for most of the day on a Thursday waiting for the 5pm POM-BNE flight (which used to be 3PM.) The Airways bar isn't the worst place to wait though...

great news! QF metal over to POM is something I'll remember next time a project comes up over in PNG.
