SNAILS!!! Why do they make a big deal about Paris all because of SNAILS?

Because of a simple aviation menace - in Paris there are so many snails trying to escape restaurants that many actually ended up hiding in pitot tubes (and we all know the mayhem that causes aircraft) - thus Qantas deciding to not risk their perfect safety record.

Qantas used to have a strong presence on the Middle East. They operated services to Bahrain and Tehran using 742s, to Karachi using either 701s or 703s, Damascus and to Dubai, using 388s. Now they don’t fly to ANY of those destinations. Can you tell me why they don’t? Thanks, because I’d really like to know!

Simples..... all stops to refuel. When 747's replaced 707's number of stops reduced . 743's used to fly QF1 SYD BKK BAH LHR. The introduction of the 744 saw BAH being dropped... no longer needed the big petrol bowser in the sand
 
What about Cairo, why was it terminated, and what aircraft did Qantas use before the termination?
 
QF don't fly to PPT anymore. I remember finding some old photos of a Qantas 742 and a Qantas 701/703 in PPT. Recently, I found a video on YouTube showing a Qantas A332 landing in PPT. Anyone know why Qantas terminated PPT, and why that A332 was landing in PPT?

Same as all the other transit points. The 742s and 707s would need additional range to get across the Pacifc so they had a range of fuel stops. Which also helped with taking people there who wanted to go there. But no longer required now.
 
I've heard a rumour that Qantas may return to PPT with direct flights from Sydney a few times per week. But this would be to meet current premium leisure demand to Tahiti and not as a stopover on the way to North America. Nothing has been announced though.
 
India's very interesting for airlines, especially Qantas. They used to operate services to DEL, CCU, and BOM. Any reason why those destinations where terminated?
 
I seem to remember flying QF3 SYD-HNL-SFO then home on QF12 LAX-PPT-SYD, but that must have been early 80s.

I was grounded - breeding - by the early 90s, didn't get on a QFi till mid noughties (sigh).

Simple... the existing fleet could be better utilised in other places for more profit. (And as an extension of this, it wasn't worth buying or leasing an extra plane to fly the route because there wasn't enough demand for the prices Qantas wanted.)

Yes + they didn’t need to stop enroute to Europe. Feeling like a broken record here.

OP could also do some research on Google. For example Calcutta (Kolkata) has under recent rule gone from the jewel in the crown of British East India (the buildings there are quite grand ... albeit delapidated) to the poorest of India’s 6 biggest cities.

I wonder if we’ll be asked about Rangoon next? And if so, must take a history lesson first.
