SQ was by far the worst (worst seat and worst catering)

I'm not rushing to fly SQ Y again.
OT , so apologies for that- this is what I have been telling my mates, most of whom, seem to think that there is nothing compared to SQ when it comes to flights from AU to the Subcontinent. Everyone swears by SQ and I keep saying "they are not that great ... they used to be, perhaps? but I don't think they are now" and most of them say "oh, you only fly QF, so you think every other airline is inferior" ... happens all the time I suggest that my mates try EK or QR or EY or CX or MH or any airline other than just keep trying SQ ... and most of my mates fly Y ...

Just an OT anecdote, the flipside to airline making their own judgements around procedures making sense or not, is staff rigorously sticking to procedures. Which is a good thing, and a sign of discipline. An example of this was flying SIN-PER on a Scoot 787 during the pandemic, all crew members went to their assigned stations and went through the safety demonstration. Common sense would suggest only 3 crew were needed to do this - one for each passenger on board. :eek: But given that crew perhaps weren;t flying that often, good for them to go through the motions to stay in practice, I guess, and not bend the procedures.
 
That is a blatant safety violation (as is the laptop sitting on the centre console which you conveniently forgot to mention).

Perhaps not in the country that aircraft is registered, but this is the reason airlines flying to Australia have to get a foreign AOC.

I've never heard QF or any other western airline say "Please bring your seat upfront for landing - unless there's nobody behind you in which case go nuts". If nothing else it's a terrible example for pax.
There are several reasons why seat backs need to be upright for take off and landing… some of those are to protect the occupant of the seat, and others are to protect those sitting around the seat.

If there’s no one sitting around the seat, and the occupier of the seat is competent and sufficiently informed to accept the risk, why should I worry? I’m just not sure I’d be as exercised about that particular example as Mr Cahill.

The tablet didn’t look that much bigger than what we’re allowed to hold in our hands in Australia for takeoff. Which is a bit silly because in the event we’d need to assume the brace position instantly, where do those hand-held devices end up anyway? Loose in the cabin!

Something might be a technical breach of the rules, but if there’s no impact of that, what is Mr Cahill’s concern about? Some airlines don’t turn off the seatbelt sign for the whole flight, despite smooth flying. But people still need to go to the lavatory. Do we have a video on that?

I really hope you don't work in the aviation industry. That is a very lax approach to safety.

Back in the days of the Singapore girls. Once they were the best, but now. Oh well.

My “back in the day” is 2014 … my first overseas flight was SQ MAA-SIN-SYD and I thoroughly enjoyed it .. partly because it was my first ever O/S trip and the SQ service and meals were good … but recently I took a SQ Y SIN-MAA in 2022 and I could see the degradation in the service … so yea, I ask why my mates swear by SQ and I think they are still set in their own “back in the day” feeling …
 
More of a realistic approach that should be focussing on more pressing and systemic issues than a one-off where the person involved understands the risks.

Just pull your f*n seat up and put your laptop away. It's not that hard.

I do think QR could have approached it differently but that’s their call. After this latest outburst by Josh though I’d ban him too though

Not the first time Qatar has shown their authoritarian side, and unfortunately for them this just confirms the apprehension some feel after the infamous Doha incident.

Their reaction to the original video will bring far more attention to it than if they just ignored it.

Yeah, as I said I don’t think handled the first one right but TBH I don’t think they care. QR will always do as they please and at the end of the day passengers have a choice to boycott them if they feel the need. People will still fly with them and personally this incident wouldn’t stop me flying with them either

Clearly they care, by all accounts they went to great lengths to get the video taken down.

As he notes in the video, other major travel vloggers including Nonstop Dan and Noel Phillips don’t seek permission either, but they’ve not been banned from flying Qatar (nor have the crews on the flights they’ve reviewed been fired). That’s obviously just an excuse Qatar is using to ban him for posting an unfavourable review.

Yes, a convenient argument for him to put forward.

According to Mr Cahill, rules are rules. They can’t be broken and there are no exceptions (see some of his videos alleging ‘shocking’ safety violations).

That someone else has broken the rules doesn’t indicate they don’t apply.

He failed to get permission, and ultimately people have allegedly lost their jobs. Way to go!
