i wonder if anyone know if this new lounge will be available for J PAX flying Qatar to Hanoi on Qatar ticket? this flight is at 2.45 pm and it seems that their new lounge is close at this time!

It will be closed, but you'll be able to use Cathay or one of the Thai lounges.

It does confirm that QR is not only a rogue member of OWE.when it comes to lounge service, their products are also inconsistent.

Be warned there may be lounge access issues to the QR lounge service if you lounge hop at BKK.

We were just denied access following QR J boarding pass complications. I was also silly enough to leave my Thai Silk Air wifi code in my passport so the staff were well aware I had been in another lounge. Truth be told we had also checked JAL's lounge as well.

Staff flatly told we could not enter as it was against policy but said we were welcome to go back to the Thai Silk Lounge. A quick sticky beak due to the novel experience of flying from BKK did not pay off.

What's more irritating than anything is that the checkout counter specifically said we could visit both lounges.

Yes but there's developments. Another chap on the same flight (10J on a 777) was denied apparently because of his soccer shirt. The stewards are going to pass on feedbackuptge line. The aircrew were at pains to state that the Qatar BKK lounge was operated on their behalf. I presume this is correct.

What is even more interesting, and contrary to my initial speculation, is that we had the same issue at Doha. Obviously the lounge hopping wasn't the real reason, or at least the only reason for denial. Turns out the QR IT system was having difficulty recognising award flights booked through other Oneworld airlines. We were asked if we were crew or had upgraded on points.

All's well, in that we have gotten in but we will apparently experience this problem on the way back too. First time issue for us at Doha on an Award flight interestingly enough.

As for the soccer shirt, I wonder if he would still have been denied if he was wearing a soccer shirt with a Qatar logo on it. I think Qatar sponsors Real Madrid.

Indeed, altgogh it did not deter several QF eligible PAX from making a 20 minute pit stop with a civilised raid on the buffet.

One even downed a SurfNTurf from the al la carte.

They have all gone now.

Note that the "Turf" comes in three modes:

1. Medium
2. Medium to Well Done
3. Well Done

I ordered 1, although it was more like 2. Tasty enough.

Times haven't changed much - I wandered past on my way to the Silver Kris lounge...

I’ve attached the latest menu.

They still only have three modes for the Surf and Turf. I ordered medium and it came like medium-well, so at least they’re consistent in that regard! Note that the lamb also has the same 3 modes.

I had the sushi and Surf and Turf - both of which look the same as above. I did think that the beef was a bit dry though, and I struggled to finish it. Taste was good.

The “special flavor” ice cream was macadamia - it was good, but closer to a grocery store one rather than an ice cream shop one.

Their Arabic coffee is also very light - which I’m not a fan of.

The showers are amazing - better than the ones in the QR SIN lounge. Sorry I don’t have photos, I forgot to bring my phone in

The lounge was pretty empty at 1600, with probably half the people there on QF296! It started filling up as we got closer to the next QR flight leaving at 1855.

Afternoon flight is leaving an hour earlier... makes it a bit more viable for QF24 J PAX.
