Qatar Airways Near to Acquiring up to 20% of Virgin Australia

Which everyone is this?

Let's stick to reality there is difference of opinion as in everything. Not always a rational basis or well founded but in a democracy people are entitled to a diversity of opinions.
Well if not everyone...plenty of pages saying so on multiple threads. Still waiting for the Qantas lovers to say that a DL interest would be bad for QF and that the govt should stop it (if it is true). I'm sure they will soon....,🤭

I’m happy to go on record to say I hope the DL rumour is true and if so should be approved by the government.

Pretty sure it's a member here that's currently suspended but posting under another name on other sites. I'd take those DL rumours across the other forums with a grain of salt.

I don’t know what there is to ‘improve’ under their current model? a MEL-SYD flight only guarantees water these days. Tea and coffee are optional depending on ‘flight time’.

Wifi is only on a select number of planes, and the streaming IFE isn’t always available.

Delays and cancellations are a problem, and service recovery is hard when you only have 8 seats in the forward cabin.

The problem with VA is the triple or quadruple whammy… flight delayed, no wifi, no ife and only water. On Qantas, only one of those things happens… your flight might be delayed, but you’ll still get wifi, IFE and drinks with a snack. That comes at a price, but having 3 out of four things is far better at relieving the stress than having 0 out of 4 :(

QR would have to invest significant money to improve the offering.
that's precisely my point
The CX is poor and inconsistent

It will take money & capability plus having an understanding of what good CX looks like to fix

Hoping that QR being onboard enables this

Bain's focus is on extrating the highest ROI in the near term, hoping this is step one of a long term focused owner and model

The double daily SYD services didn't exactly turn out well for them so 3x of those frequencies were transferred to the partial Queensland taxpayer-funded seasonal BNE-LAX.
The double did well while demand was strong, but its since come off and once a day is likely enough.

If Velocity eliminates or limits the SQ partnership you will most likely see sQ KrisFlyer earning credit cards enter the market in a big way.
It would be terrible for me. Next 6 OS flights are J awards. One is through Lifemiles and 5 on SQ through Velocity.

I am skeptical that that VA would eliminate or reduce the partnership with SQ anytime soon due to their deep ties including benefits for Gold/ Plat members, transfer of VFF to KF, reward flight availability ect

While there may be a reduction of award seats via VA in premium cabins I would think they believe SQ to be a strong and vital partner

so the CEO the other day said this in an interview ....

There’s been a lot of talk lately (among other circles, we might add!) around Qatar Airways potentially taking a stake in Virgin Australia. However, Hrdlicka is quick to dampen those expectations. ‘There’s been a lot of creative fiction written, I’ll just say that,’ says the Virgin boss.

‘But our partners are absolutely essential to us. And we have the world’s best partners, United Airlines, Air Canada, Singapore Airlines, Qatar, ANA, Hawaiian. We are working every day to deepen those relationships, strengthen the experience we provide to our customers and do a better job selling together to business customers.’
