Qatar Airways set to fly DOH-SYD from 01 March 2016

They can't do BNE without moving something or getting another increase to the air services agreement.
They had maxed out the 14 weekly flights allowed to Qatar under the Qatar-Australia air services agreement with PER and MEL. That agreement has recently been increased to 21 weekly flights.
Main thing I see here is QR's backflip on their protest of the SYD curfew.

I am aware of the restrictions but before they launched SYD like you mentioned, they were limited to 14 frequencies. Nothing to say 21 can't become 28 or more..

Smart move by QR. Route will do well for them because they have a solid offering and offer competitive fares.

Depends on exactly what the agreement is. The UAE and Mainland China agreements have yearly automatic increases in flights (UAE) or seats (China) built into the agreement.

A previous post asked about award availability. In J you have no chance (if you take PER departures as a guide - no, in fact all departures except DOH-DXB) as they are never listed. Maybe you have to ring QF just like if you want MH flights. Having said that there are plenty of Y seats, and the 777 is a comfortable 3-3-3 configuration, but the new a350's are touted to be 3-4-3 so it will be the same as squishy EK.

I would put my money on a superfluous number of award blog websites sharing availability information. 6 months ago QR J ex PER was reasonably easy to locate (EDIT: Using QF booking system).

QR is reconfiguring some if not all 77W's to 10 across like EK and the A350 is only 9 across. Avoid the 787 in Y as that is cramped!

Ok.... Forget what I previous said about QR being very quite here in Australia.

I think the marketing that QR will undertake here in Australia is about to heat up big time.

Will be interesting to monitor their competitors responses, cx ey EK and sq won't want to lose through to Europe traffic

Like I said, air services agreements can change quite quickly! Fantastic news! Does ADL have a decent lounge one should be able to use as a QR J pax?
QR starting flights to ADL requires no change to the agreement and could have started years ago had QR wanted to.

Can already see 4 J award seats on the route in the first week of operations using the BA search engine :)

Whilst their 777 business product is good their 787 business is excellent wish they would fly that here.

What about an add on to Auckland? Qatar has been running adverts for special fares to Europe, but as yet it doesn't fly here!

A350 is 9 across and wider than 787s.

Excellent news! So ADL has even better J seats than MEL, PER and SYD! Who would have guessed? Hopefully the ADL route do well as I am sure South Aussies are crying out for more international flights out of ADL.

Of course it can, but I think you'll find Qatar has been lobbying the Aus government for some time. Things don't happen quickly in Government and there are many interested parties.

Nothing to do with Air Services agreements. Adelaide is not included. QR could fly to any port exc Perth, Mel, Bne or Syd. For those 4 ports they now have 21 frequencies.
