I have booked my Mum and Dad onto EDI-DOH-MEL, out Sep, back Oct, for 2394 GBP pp. using the Qatar web site.
Aircraft details are:
EDI-DOH - 787-8 Dreamliner
DOH-MEL - 777-300ER
I really need to get them to BNE so they can see their grandchildren during the September school holidays but I'll just make a separate Virgin/Qantas MEL-BNE return booking for them.
I spoke to two UK travel agents and neither could see these Qatar flights at this low price and whilst they could add Virgin MEL-BNE for them, was told my parents's suitcases would not go through to Brisbane - they will need to collect their suitcases in MEL and then do check-in for BNE.
So wasn't seeing the point of using a UK travel agent for a more expensive outcome and without the convenience of the suitcases going to BNE.
Hence I've went with a DIY approach - Qatar web booking and a Virgin/Qantas MEL-BNE booking at a later date.
My thanks to the community for making me aware of Qatar - have only ready good things about their J service. Fingers crossed, my parents agree next year.
