Pot. Kettle. Black.

Let’s get back to discussing the topic at hand. As much as people are suggesting that we need an EU style compensation regime, how are people getting still delayed this amount of time by a fairly large airline.

I think a review of how EU261 is managed is in order. Simply put none of this is good enough.

No Tom but first you said CX didn't fly from EDI.But they do sell tickets and have CX codeshares. They obviously took responsibility by first apologising and then stuffed up the rebooking. You critised his journalism and called him shouty man.I was just pointing out the airline side of the story and pointing out where you were mistaken. That is not taking pot shots.

You and I are clearly not going to agree here. I should have realized that this was his blog and not actually journalism as made evident by the numerous spelling errors. You still haven't shown me where I was mistaken but I'm going to stop since you did resort to calling me a shouty man and there's no point in me wasting my time any further dealing with you.

There’s no need to make it personal between any of you; though it is entertaining.

As customers of airlines, we should all be together in wanting the best result, because one day soon it’s likely you’ll be on the wrong side of the equation wishing a matter was more appropriately dealt with.

Merry Christmas to all!

Even with a robust compensation regime there will be examples where it still 'doesn't work'. But what would the situation be if there was no EU261 at all? It would probably be a lot worse, as we see in Australia. Qantas (I'm guessing DJ is similar) only states they will carry you on another one of their services... wait for it... 'free of charge'. I've had friends offered waits of 24 hours in HKG for the next QF service when there have been plenty of seats going on CX services. With a hefty penalty of $1000 it might encourage airlines to book that seat on CX.

I’m sorry but I hear of situations occurring like this out of the EU a lot, in particular the ME carriers.

EU261 doesn’t seem to phase them.

Then they fork out the $. This partly addresses the ACCC's concerns that cancellation fees are one sided... the passenger has to pay if they decide to cancel but the airline does not. EU261 implements a more equal playing field.

Assuming that everything he's written is 100% correct, CX didn't handle the misconnect well. Not arguing that at all. I'd just like to see some journalism instead of loud shouty opinion man. But I know that's not going to happen as he is just an opinion writer (with a large following).

Let's see,
a. No one else here has posted about such a monumental stuff up with routine air travel. And in the couple of years I've been here, I haven't seen anybody write up anything close to or akin to what Bolt has reported, and
b. Nobody else in the main media has written up anything about this, or anything akin to this (except for when flights are grounded due to snow storms, industrial action or volcanos).

Yet, somehow, you are attacking Bolt for not being journalistic enough, when nobody else - journalists included - has covered it.
Your reasoning does not follow the facts.
Regards,
Renato

If you read the blog post he's written, he links to an article in the Scottish press that actually describes this rather common occurrence. Which anyone who follows travel news knows is normal. It's not right, but it is rather common. I'm clearly wrong about the "most read blog" writer in Australia though. He's a blogger, not a journalist. I do keep forgetting that even the Herald Sun puts him under their opinion section.
