Qatar in talks to take up to 20pc stake in Virgin

Qatar Airways apparently want to fly PER-LHR and JNB-SYD as seventh-freedom, nonstop routes in collaboration with VA if/when they get that 20% stake. It's that simple.

The consequences of this plan to Australia's economic sovereignty, prosperity and national interest are outlined in the posts above.
I don’t believe your doomsday scenarios. QR is no threat to our economic sovereignty or prosperity. It might effect QF's profitability but that is a totally different thing.
If QR wants to do PER - LHR so be it. It doesn't need to necessarily use VA. It for example can do QR 9 DOH -LHR-PER. Much the same as QF 9 used to be MEL - PER -LHR. And have QR10 back.
Then this-
They’re already experimenting with this by adding their QR code to VA’s CNS-HND service from July 4. QR has no role in the Australia-Japan market.
I guess they have just as much interest and role as QF codes on flights from DXB to most places in Europe. I would love it if QR leased a couple of their A350s to VA for that route. Heck they might even then swap it to SYD -HND as it is VA's spot at HND sand the Treasurer couldn't stop VA operating the service out of SYD.

And will you stop bleating about our national airline. It is meaningless to the majority of Australians who value it as 10% of diddly squat. QF is not owned by the Government so is a totally different beast to government owned airlines.
On that score I note you don't complain about the Chinese airlines which basically are either Government or Party owned.

No it can’t. The respective ASAs don’t allow for that.
