Hi. I am new to Qatar, but platinum with Velocity. Is there any status matching still happening?

Can we expect to receive an upgrade offer from Economy to Business? We fly in 12 days.

We are flying from Melbourne - just confirming we will be able to access lounges (Melbourne, Doha, Milan)?

Can you access a lounge after landing in Madrid?
Thanks!

Others will be able to help with international lounges but I also recommend you review the international airline partner lounge info on the Velocity website. You'll have access in Melbourne and Doha, yes. Lounge access on arrival, no.

And what do you mean by upgrade offer? If you simply mean can you expect that Qatar will offer you a complimentary upgrade to Business because you are a Velocity Platinum, then the answer is no.

Enjoy your trip!

Hi
Thanks for responding.
I was just interested if they will offer any upgrades to Business where you need to bid for them regardless of status?

Upgrade offers come out within 14 days of departure or so, last two flights it was within 7 days of departure.

Prices for the upgrade offers were astronomical at over $4500 for the ADL - DOH leg. This was in March, with a similar price offered on the return.

As TMP said, look at the partner lounge access statement on the VA website. If you do find access stated, print it off and take it with you. There have been reports of overseas QR lounges being unaware of the VA partnership & denying access. Even then, it may be 50/50 - the QR lounge dragons in DOH are very strict. Also, there are a range of lounges at DOH, catering for various statuses on various types of partner. Might be good for you to review the DOH lounge list and then compare to what (if any) VA says you can use, else you might go to wrong one and get (correctly) bounced without realising that another would be OK.

I haven't heard of a current status match - but if there is one QR matching VA, I'm all ears!!

And welcome to posting on AFF.

Pretty sure it’s the Marhaba lounge in MEL but make sure you get your lounge invite at check in otherwise you won’t get in.
You should get access to the Platinum lounge in DOH and by all reports staff seem pretty switched on to that. As mentioned above make sure you print off any data that will help you should the need arise

It is the Marhaba lounge at MEL - I can confirm that for you.

Regarding the lounges at DOH, I'm not certain, but I'm fairly sure @jase05 is correct. There is also a combined Plat+Gold Lounge near the C gates in DOH now which you can also use and this is probably better than the South Platinum lounge.

In any case, like others have correctly said here, keep proof of any data because lounge agents in DOH are literally as strict as they come and if for some reason they make a mistake, they won't budge unless you can prove otherwise.
