Can't wait! Refurnished 744 to BKK and introduction of A380 on the route please ;)

According to a report in The Australian the rejigged jumbos will sport 270 seats in economy class – some 83 seats more than the current Pacific configuration for the long-range Boeing 747-400ERs. The number of business class seats will drop by eight, from 66 down to 58, while the premium economy cabin is trimmed from 40 seats to 36.

My math tends to be pretty bad, but does this mean less seat pitch in whY? (genuine question, I'm really not sure), and would it also see an end to the "cabin redefinitions" that see 1-2 rows of whY+ being allocated to whY pax on some routes? (guessing the answer would be yes)

Glad to see that the new J seating is finally being fitted :) I might talk QF down a bit, but their A380 hard product in J is several kinds of awesome! :)

Might have been nice if they could also re-paint the tails in the same down time... even though I realise it'd be a separate factory for that.

A check of EF for some dates in December (18th) BNE-LAX shows the new config is already in the GDS. 62 in J, 36 in Y+ and lots in Y...too many to count. Y now starts at row 48! 2 less seats in the J upper deck too...

It is a little sad that we will only be able to upgrade to F on A380 routes in the future and the end of F seats with J service as well.

It will be great to get SBII though on other flights - so a bit of half empty/half full scenario for me.

Agree with you completely... But you can't create QanStar without some "enhancements"

I'll miss my J in F and my Y+ in J and my Y in Y+...but it was bound to come to an end eventually...and everyone has been calling for QF to upgrade the 747 product since the A380 landed...so I see this as glass half full.

So the new exit row seats are on row 13 on the UD

I'd say no, the seat pitch will remain the same, it's just they will have additional space where Y+ \ J seats used to be (56 pax = 5 x 3-4-3 rows, plus a 3-galley-3 row...),

and yes, no more "cabin redefinitions" I expect QF hated giving J seats to Y+ pax and Y+ seat to Y pax... Given that some Y pax where getting seats which would normally cost many more thousands than what they paid I can understand QF's annoyance.

All this said I do see this as the death of F... I do see J becoming the new F in the future, and Y+ the new J... (so back where we started except not as good service)

In reading this Australian article am I right in thinking they are going to re config the first 12 A380 in MNL, creating an extra 35 seats, by a] a reduction in J seating b] increased Y class seating - less pitch, c] withdrawal of F class on all aircraft all routes? Would be surprised with latter as Joyce has stated on a number of occasions that F will stay on LHR via SIN and SYD/LAX and MEL/LAX.

About time this happened, although its sad to see the F product go, the poor old 744 is looking very tired indeed.

Does this mean the 744s are getting the A380 Y seats and new IFE in all classes?

Virgin are doing it all in the same building. It would be nice to have all the aircraft in the current livery. It changed over give years ago. ( I think? Feels that long)

Interesting that they can squeeze 14 MkII Skybeds into Zone A.

Their 388 Pitch is 80" for MkII (MkI is 60"), I guess it will be similar, perhaps a little less.

I see that the row 58HJK exit seats are not there, neither are 59HJK. Maybe there's some crew rest provisioning.

Anyword on if the non-ER 744's are getting the signature interior like the 744ERs?
