QF 9 between MEL and PER my thoughts

If you're planning to use QF9/QF10 to get between Melbourne and Perth- one piece of advice- DON'T DO IT!

All the faff of international checkin, border control on both ends. Literally added hours to the journey.
I know. Crazy isn't it? Anyway it's soon stopping.

We have done QF9 and QF10 twice as domestic travellers. Too much proving we are domestic flyers so I doubt we would do it again. We flew from Adelaide to get to Melbourne to get to Perth as a tester. The plane was delayed and the walk to the terminal and then the baggage was very long. We won’t bother doing it again.

Your wish is QF’s command … the route is pretty much cooked in a couple of months.

737 connections to QF9/10 to LHR from now on.

Does anyone know what will happen to those 787s that operate QF9/10 post-July (since they won’t come from eastern Australia anymore)? Will they keep 2-3 787s dedicated for PER-LHR only as there are no other 787 routes from PER (excluding the other European flights that come from Sydney)

I’ve done QF 9 several times and like it. QR10 only once. I like using the F check in and F lounge In MEL. Twice I’ve been offered a spa treatment. Usually I fly HLO, so no waiting at the baggage carousel. There has been minimal wait exiting Perth airport, so an all around worthwhile experience.

In future I’ll have to go back to mostly 737s to visit Mum, although I‘l look for an Airbus if possible.

Likely they'll periodically rotate through to SYD as QF6/QF34. Or maybe even on standard domestic services if need be.

I did it once last year, just for fun and found it a most agreeable experience. I would have done it a few times more however the timing did not suit.

As an aside, I went through the international departure at MEL for a QR flight on a recent Tuesday around 1800 and found it extremely efficient.
