Hi all,

Looking to book flights from SYD-SIN in J and have the option of taking either an unrefurbished QF A333 or an EK B77W (via MEL). Both have sloping sleepers and as I prefer a window seat would not have direct aisle access in both. Which would you take? Would be particularly keen to hear from those who have travelled in both before on the sleeping and dining experience.

Thanks!

With QF always the luck of the draw on the refurbs..

The EK405 flight also gets into SIN near midnight (2/3am SYD time) so a long day including MEL detour

Flight timings are not an issue and I have no problems with travelling via either MEL or BNE (in fact will probably do so to maximise status credits).

On the return both airlines operate overnight flights so would be good to hear how the seat stacks up for sleeping.

Taking QF direct, you always have the chance of a refurb?

Would that be worth taking QF over EK?

Not really, not just by itself. Any other pros to flying QF metal?

QF in any case. The Skybed Mark 1 seat is better than the EK 77W seat. QF service is better as well.

QF SIN-SYD in December served supper not dinner which was fairly underwhelming. The expectation was that you ate in the lounge before boarding. The flight left about 7.30pm or so SIN time and the aim seemed to finish the service quickly and get the passengers asleep. Not sure if they have changed it (the booking info online said dinner but online menu choice and onboard it was the smaller supper service). Can't say if EK have full meal service. Depends what you prefer I suppose. Certainly no pre-dinner drink on QF or tea/coffee with the meal.
And the service on our side of the plane in J was very poor. Not even seated when the bubbly was thrust at me, and amenity kit/PJs handed out. Just seemed very rushed. I should add that the flight SYD - SIN was excellent.

+1 qf f and b very inferior for supper and the cafe brekky (which they added nauseating baked eggs late last year for me on this sector)

It's a close call, both airlines will look after you should you have status, but my thought would've QF, as the EK 777 is quite cramped even in the J cabin.

Yes, you just reminded me of the eggs - why oh why do QF insist on adding mushrooms to baked eggs when many people do not like mushrooms and don't eat them. I remember the rubbery consistency now. Not sure if I should thank you or not yohy!
