QF A350 First

FWIW I stumbled across footage of one of Qatars A350-1000s landing in JFK over the weekend. As far as aircraft go, it looks amazing on the outside. If the finish and styling is even remotely similar on the inside, it will be one amazing piece of metal.

They are; at least the -900 :)

Oh the irony - given the QR/Airbus tussle around the A350 exteriors !! ;)

I think everyone knows QF's interior fitout won't be that close to QR - specially in the premium cabins. And well the soft product. lol. I suppose QF could surprise us, but seems unlikely

QF is definitely due a new J long haul seat imo.

(but yes, for me the A350 is the "sexiest" aircraft in the skies these days for sure)

Interesting. LH have gone away from separate bed and chair.
I’ve only tried F on QF and EK but struggling to work out how a separate bed and seat make sense unless there are half the number of F seats in the same space (which of itself doesn’t make sense). Is there any real logic to it?

I haven't flown F on LH or SQ but I have flown in the First Apartments on EY's A380.
I found the separate bed and chair very useful.
It was geat to be able to get out of bed, sit up and eat something, read something, and then go back to bed.
All without removing the bedding, or having to sit on the bedding.
I found the latter rather uncomfortable when I was in EK F last November.

The A350 is definitely my favourite aircraft (despite some nostalgia for the A340 - largely because of the palatial bathroom in EY F).
In my experience it is quieter than the B787.
I will never forget flying SCL-GRU on a LATAM A350 in December 2019 (a few months pre-COVID).
The experience on descent was magical - with the lights of the huge metropolis of Sao Paulo spread out beneath us, we seemd to be floating in mid air, as we silently crossed the city on approach to GRU.
Mind you I was in 1A - I dare say it is noisier down the back!

But the main reason I really like the A350 is they have proper window shades and not the stupid dimmable windows like the 787.
However i hear that Airbus is now offering dimmable windows with less light transmission than the 787.

Its supposed to be quieter than the 787 but I am not convinced.

I hope QF does not get the dimmable windows. But knowing AJ he will get it due to "extensive customer feedback"

Yeah to be fair it is a bluey-green. I didn't quite know the word to use because you say blue green and people think teal which of course it's not even close to.. I kinda see it more greenish(darker) but I guess that's subjective.

Anyway whatever colour it is it looks great - we all agree :D

Yes, agree with the windows. The 787's dimming windows that both obviously can be locked by crew, but also do NOT go totally black I find frustrating on multiple levels (as I've noted elsewhere). I too feel the 350 is slightly quieter, but it all depends on where you sit of course.

Of course the big plus for both aircraft is the higher cabin pressure/humidity(whatever you call it that escapes me just now) so it's far more comfy for the really long hauls.

Those 350 winglets and cool "sunglass" coughpit windows just give it a cool factor (787 too is good, specially the stramlined coughpit windows, but it's just not quite at the same level).

anyway all subjective of course. I'm happy to see either of them, and happier still to be getting on one ! :D
(even if I can't describe the livery colour properly :) )

We are well OT but I also dislike the window dimming on the 787 but I do like the scalloped edge of the back of the engine nacelles! Otherwise it’s the A350 for me too! I had the pleasure of flying the JAL version between Tokyo and Sapporo last month - was extremely quiet and comfortable. They have a domestic F class but (not unexpectedly given the short flight) it’s not as good as J on most long haul carriers.

I thought in the A350 the dimmable windows still had a physical windowshade as well.
However, I could be wrong. It's happened at least twice. 🤣
