QF A380 First Commercial Flight

Grabbed my digital camera as I was heading out the door to catch QF401 this morning, on the off chance that I'd be taxiing past the A380 after landing in MEL.

Sure enough we did, and I was sitting on the right (in both senses of the word) side, and got a fantastic view (and a few shots) of the side and rear.

Wow, what a monster. I've seen the SQ A380 (actually it was parked right near the M5 East exit on Saturday), but never as close as this. Very impressive!

Can't wait to fly on it..hopefully in Dec...and hopefully with a J->F points upgrade! :D

Cheers,
- Febs.

All seems a bit of anticlaimx in a way - after so much build up - it's just happened...

Agreed and to be honest I was expecting a thread in here this morning with perhaps some photos from some keen Melbourne spotters! :P

I am sure it'll make the news tonight, but I guess the delivery from Toulouse was more significant as far as the media/public hype is concerned.

i had seriously contemplated getting a ticket on that first flight and back.. Getting the time off work was harder! i had the points (there was still FF seat available last week - in Y but who cares!).

Well maybe next year I'll get a trip!

Got a nice A4 'brochure' in the post from Qantas today advertising the A380. Well laid out. Discusses the plane in general, then goes through the various classes.

Nothing in the brochure that isn't on the net, but thought it makes a nice glossy to keep around!

Me too, unfortunately a bit bent/creased as the postie folded it in two to stick it in the box.

Once my workmates saw it, they flicked through, put stains on it (fingerprints/coffee etc) and generally treated it like a Qantas promo :)

My postie (PO Box) actually had me collect it due to it's size and shape! And I have a medium sized PO Box where most similar items are curved into !

Glossy A380 brochure arrived today

Got a very large envelope from Qantas with a glossy A380 brochure.

All very swish (my wife was certainly impressed).
Maybe I am being fussy but:

a) No one is wearing seat beats in ANY of the photos. Ok ok ok... I know they are REALLY on the ground, but hey.... they STOP you bouncing off the roof!!
b) You cannot tell if the fine looking man sleeping in First is wearing his
belt under his blanket. On BA they insist the belt be visible above the blanket and will wake you if they cannot see it.
c) The smiling young lad in economy (sitting next to his delightfully relaxed and charmingly dressed young mother) is playing Nintendo DS... so are the games on the A380 as lame as they are on 747?
d) Compare the lady in economy on the final page watching the screen in front of her.... to the gentleman on slide 14 of the Age photo shoot shown here:

Perhaps she is only 5 feet tall?

Overall a very nice glossy despite my pathetic complaints.... sadly my employer has banned ALL Business class travel worldwide, but I can still dream....

Re: Glossy A380 brochure arrived today

One more interesting quirk... the first class diners have metal knives....

Re: Glossy A380 brochure arrived today

Mine made it from the postbox at the end of the drive up to the yellow bin.

No brochure for me...

No Air magazine for me...

Do I even exist:?:

ejb

My understanding is that Air magazine is only sent to the top 1% of FFs, the A380 brochure was sent to all Platinums.

Hmm - I'll make PG in a few weeks. I'm hoping that you don't have to be >PG to be in the top 1% :-) But no Air mag for me...

I got both. Very surprised that I got the air mag based on the top 1% of FF's.

I am assuming that it is based on SC earn and not revenue??
