36D shouldn't exist as a seat - there should be two seats in that row but leave a space between 36EF and the wall (I assume the wall has to stay). That way they have some space, and they can store things in that space like pillows etc, considering how limited the overhead storage is

For those who are wondering about the overhead bin space - remember this was originally designed to be a PE cabin with 5 less seats (I think 5), and even then overhead bin space was at a premium (no pun intended).

The overhead bin size can be determined by the actual aircraft design and/or its safety requirements...there are no bins over/near row 35DEF, the 'exit areas', as it's a dedicated route in an emergency evac (regardless of what type of seats)...and other scenarios, that there are certain elements of an aircraft structure running along/through the ceiling/walls which precludes a larger bin being installed, or the absence of a window...this is why there are no bins/'smaller' bins/no windows in certain areas of the cabin.. This applies to all types of aircraft

Currently booked in 71D and E for a return flight from LAX in November, but i quite like the idea of just having less people around.

I am assuming however that since i cannot select 32ABJK that they are reserved for WP until a certain point?

They are not reserved for WP in my experience - I have reserved seats in rows 32 and 35 for my little brother before and he's NB. From memory I just had to pay the $25 seat reservation fee. Happy to be corrected though.

Did you call up to get your brother on the upper deck?
I have found that lower status pax have a limited selection of upper deck seats until a few days before.

No - just did it online using his login. This was October last year on QF93/94. I can't remember how far out I did it so that might explain things.

Qantas changed my flights, so I called them and was offered 33F. The agent did say those are usually reserved for higher status pax.

I'll have to give them another call and see if I can get into 32A or 32F.

Excellent shots/report nonpop thanks for sharing.

That 36D looks nightmarish and I completely agree it should not be sold, yuck.

Ansett OMG as P1 and allocated that I would be 100% p*ssed off (hell even as WP I would go nuts).

Oh believe you me they knew I was P*SSED off and will never let them forget it either. I didn't need to use my phone they could hear me all the way back in OZ

At least you found an alternate place to drown your sorrows on the 14 hour hop back to MEL :)

That was indeed the silver lining BUT the payback was no or very very little sleep and then having to go straight to work LOL

Thanks for the positive feedback. I was really trying to capture as many angles of the cabin / seating as possible to help the great folks here on AFF. I've learned a lot of info from this forum and feel it is always important to try and give back / look for 'value-add' where possible. The more info we share the better for all of us vs the uninformed

Anyone flown in row 35 and have thoughts on it?

We had a good long hard look at 35 whilst in-flight.
I'd have no issue in sitting in those seats. J/K would be best as DEF has people crossing in front using it as a walk through.
But it appeared to not be a big issue if in DEF. The heaps of space in front of DEF would be excellent on a long trip.
J/K would be the optimal of row 35 as had lots of space in front which was never used by anyone. So if you want lots of leg room and nobody reclining into you, then 35 would be excellent.

Thanks for sharing the photos and insight.
Love that cabin but am finding as a NB there never seems to be 2 seats available. Only ever seen one available when trying to choose seats. Even a long way ahead of the flight.

This is a great little area to sit. Never a wait for the toilets and seems to be occupied by higher tier frequent flyers and prompt service. The only problem is when arriving in Australia or any airport that doesn't have dual air bridges you are the last to get off the plane which can make for a long wait at immigration.

So after getting your Y seat you have access to business class bar area?
