These are not big guys but both are spilling into the aisle and Jessica, who has a slight frame, said the seats were narrow.

I wouldnt do QF Y on this plane if you gave me the seat for free.

That seat looks a bit weird especially above the shoulders. Way smaller than Dom Y. And narrower than the middle seat. Almost like one of those kiddie pop up seats in the car.

I saw same anecdotes also of 789 Premium Economy PAX's inability to use the both the PE tray table and seat belt at the same time.

I want to know if they PJs are just for this flight - always need new kinds of PJs

I experienced that issue. I needed to undo the seat belt due to the airbag when they tray table was out. I'm 5'10 and thin.

If people are taking their seatbelts off more, this doesn't improve safety onboard.

Wow the more i hear about this product, the more i want to avoid it. How can something like not being able to wear a seat belt during meals, get through the people signing off the product? A massive design flaw for an airline that prides itself (rightly so) on being the safest airline in the sky.

Lot‘s of wrinkles in his “jazzy pjs” so he must have slept well.
Actually, he pretty much referred to them as gimmicks and "weren't necessarily the most comfortable to sleep in".

Not sure why you'd bother, but i guess if someone is giving you a free business class ticket...

The hyperbole about the Dreamliner using advanced composite materials making it lighter is not made out in the facts.

The most comparable Boeing aircraft to the Dreamliner 787-900 is the 767-400. The former being a little wider with longer wings and a touch shorter. The extensive use of composites suggest then that the aircraft should be significantly lighter

However using the Operating Empty Weight metric (akin to Tare weight), the 787-900 is about 25000kg heavier than the 767-400.

Richard Guest CNN “cash for comment “ said that the airline uses special streamlined and lighter cutlery to maximise mission range - the wine glass without the stem helps get the aircraft to LHR. It’s akin to the Olive myth which suggested an airline found that removing olives from the menu resulted in significant fuel saving.

It’s also 3000kg heavier than the A330-300 (these 2 share similar cabin floor area)

The 787-900 carry more fuel - 27000kg more than the 767-400

Was that ever a thing? AA saved $40k a year by - so the story goes - removing one olive from every first class salad. That was the actual cost of buying the olives. But did another airline claim they did the same thing to reduce fuel? (The reality, apparently, is that they stopped providing olives for garnish in the drinks trolley, so a packet of olives was saved per aircraft and that amounted to the $40K over a year.)

If QF wanted to really cut down weight they could weigh cabin baggage and remove things like the bulky inflight magazine, which over 300 seats would probably come to 60kg in itself (200g per mag?)

I‘m quite surprised by the the extent of coverage this flight generated internationally so Qantas Marketing must be thrilled. Richard Quest from CNN drank the Kool Aid and delivered the spin. Lot‘s of wrinkles in his “jazzy pjs” so he must have slept well.

Of course it did especially When it’s paid for by the airline
Reads like a “cash for comment”

LOL Richard Quest ... more like Cash for Meth.

As just a couple of substantial differences, 767s didn't have entertainment equipment throughout, and the extra weight of screens, control boxes, cabling and controllers was one of the reasons Qantas held off adding them to aircraft at the time. Similarly the business class suites in use now weigh a lot more than the basic business class seats in the 767 series. With other differences in avionics throughout the plane, I wouldn't be surprised at the weight gain.

You can see a similar thing in cars. Cars of the 80s used heavy steel, whereas modern ones use much lighter alloys. So just looking at structure alone, new ones should be lighter, right? However, modern cars weigh a lot more than cars from decades ago thanks to all the extras that have been added to them, from computers to airbags, to extra sound and entertainment systems, plus electric windows, seating and so on.

The Non US market overall has much less luggage allowance than the US market which is usually double in terms of weight so I guess total luggage to/from LHR would be less than MEL-LAX

For the London flights... if we are to believe there's lighter cutlery to help achieve range, an easy way to reduce weight would be to enforce the 7kg hand luggage per person - rather than the 8, 9, 10 or more kilos some people probably bring on now.
