The new change fee level applies to changes on all Red e-Deal fares where the ticket is changed on/after 18 September 2013, regardless of date of issue of the original ticket.

Qantas is committed to ensuring that we continue to offer our customers a superior level of choice and flexibility for their travel plans. All Flexi Saver and Fully Flexible fares retain the ability to change right up until day of departure with no change fee applicable. [/TD]

Not much change left out of an $85 red e-deal.

These change fees really are getting beyond a joke. At $77, some changes will cost more than the ticket! Why not have a sliding scale based on how far out you make the change? 30+ days - $50, 15-29 days - $65, 7-14 days - $75 etc, etc.

If the point of the fee is to recover the chance that the original seat will go unsold, then surely the earlier the change is made, then lower this risk!

Well surely people realise a red e-deal is rather inflexible anyway, and if you want to be able to change well buy a flexi....

Some people think saving the fare difference at time of purchase is worth the risk, at the end of the day the change fare will be the only extra your paying compared to having bought a flexi, both of course have the applicable fare difference to pay at the time the change is made.

I recall when red e-deals were first introduced - the fare rules permitted no changes and no-refunds (let alone any 'credit').

I typically book everything on a Red e-Deal and in the unlikely event I need to change I pay the fee. Given the rarity of needing to change I stil come out well in front and accept the fee.

I typically book everything on a Red e-Deal and in the unlikely event I need to change I pay the fee. Given the rarity of needing to change I stil come out well in front and accept the fee.

Exactly. I have 100 flights a year. Flexis are going to cost an extra $10000 to $15000. I change about 10 flights a year, cost = $650/$770.

Maybe it's better to cancel the flight, claim the taxes back (if that is possible) and book your alternate flight rather than pay the change fee and the fare difference.

That is effectively the case again now.

I can only change my $85 deal to a more expensive option where the cost is $77 + fare difference + cc surcharge.

To be fair, at least they announced this one. Their usual practice is to try to do these things sneakily behind everyone's back and divert attention with a red herring.
