Does anyone know what happens to my QF Club membership if I make Gold?

That is, if I make Gold in September 08 I get a Complementary QF Club membership for 12 months. But I still have 8 months remaining of my paid membership. So what does QF do with my remaining membership time?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Flying Fox,

Your paid membership goes on hold until you drop from complimentary membership. It then simply reactivates for the balance of the time. (8 months in your case)

More than that; if you attain a status level, you will have that status for the remainder of your current year and your next year as well (unless you attain a higher status in the meantime).

E.g. If you make SG in Sept '08 and your QFF/QP "Year" ends Nov '08 you will have gold at least until Nov '09. The two months of unused QP membership will be held over and made available to you should you drop back to PS in December '09 or later.

FWIW, My year ends in October and I attained Gold with comp QP membership in April '06. That 5 months QP membership has been in abeyance ever since. Given that I am likely to attain LTG by the end of this year, it is probable that I'll never use those remaining five months.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes I was also wondering about how long you keep gold for if you qualify say 1 mth before renewal. Glad to know that you get at least 1yr of status upon qualification.

I went from SG to WP in Nov last year. My anniversary is April and my WP expires in April 2009. So you get the remainder of your current membership year as your new status then an additional full year as whatever status.

But what happens if you were never a member of the QP, receive comping thru SG, then drop back to PS?

Do you still have the pay the one-off joining fee if then deciding to join the QP?

Yes: still pay the joining fee. From reading about this QC membership is not held over if in a corporate scheme

What if you are a life member of the QP? Does membership get extended to the next life?

Ha ha....

Yes you get to use the Priority Check-in for Heaven or Hell and your bags get tag Priority too!!!

What happens if you qualify mid-flight for SG. For Example, if I I'm travelling ADL-SYD-BNE all on the same day and I qualify for SG on the ADL-SYD flight, do I get SG status straight away and hence receive the 50% bonus points & other benefits for the SYD-BNE flight OR does SG not start until the next day?

Everyone I know of that this has happened to has got 3 months complimentry QC. They just renewd after the 3 months with out a joining fee.

You are making the assumption that LTG will always have complimentary lounge access as a benefit. Time will tell....

Although that could happen, I think it's unlikely.

In any case, I believe I covered this with the use of the adjective probable!

I'm in a corporate scheme, and when I made Gold (which was, albeit several years ago, so maybe things have changed) I was told that my membership was suspended until I dropped below Gold (which hasn't happened yet, so I don't know definitively what will happen).

My posts in this thread describe the consistent experiences posted by other posters here on AFF and FT in regard to this very topic.

I have not been too focused on LTG as i know its no for sure thing that it will be always around or have the same features and i am QC life time anyway which i think should retain lounge privs. (Since thats the product they sold)

Before the recent changes, my status always showed as Qantas Club Platinum. I assumed this was because I had a suspended Qantas Club membership. With the new website, it just shows Platinum. Anyone else noticed this?

Just checked mine, and it shows Qantas Club Silver which was the same before the changes. Not sure if this has anything to do with the different grades of metals from Platinum to Silver?

Thanks localknowledge, how ever I think Silver would still show that as Silver does not grant Qantas Club on its own.

Love to know what other Gold and Platinum people have seen.

my Lifetime Gold account just says Gold. And I technically have about 18 months of paid Qantas Club membership on hold since last decade, waiting for my Lifetime status to expire .
