QF Codeshare day flight options into MEL

Hi,
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post my query, I am quite new here.

I am flying frequently into SE Asia and the Middle East for work in Economy (about once a month at present) and I am about to hit gold with Qantas. However the overnight flights into MEL from SE Asia absolutely kill me as I struggle to get any sleep. As Business class is not an option for me, is there any way to book a day flight into Melbourne on a QF flight number with another airline?

Or are there any other flight options you can think of?

Thanks for your time.

EK408/QF8408 is the only flight that comes to mind with a QF code. Afternoon departure, very late night arrival though.

Otherwise, if you can forego the QF code share there are day flights on CX and MH that land at more reasonable times.

Thank you for your response kpro, this is very useful. I will try this next time I fly. Thanks also for the MH & CX tip, I am considering switching to CX if I cannot find a suitable flight to start taking.

From the Middle East there is of course QF 10 which is an overnight flight, but has the evening arrival into MEL similar to the day flights from SE Asia.

Other options not already mentioned include QF codeshare on the China Southern flight from CAN and of course day flight on JQ from Bali.

For some reason out of main ports (such as SIN, HKG) QF only operate the overnights - even where 2 QF flights and 1 JQ flight operate on the route - there is very little time diversity, as people obviously would much rather a 6 hr overnight to same length day time flight.

Thanks dajop, the CAN flight is interesting, I have flown CZ before and it was alright. The only issue being visas. If I could code share through CAN with an overnight it would solve all my problems.

I am trying QF10 for the first time in a fortnight which I am looking forward to. It seems my SE Asia hub is my only problem :-)

I dispute this. QF keep saying it, but where's the evidence? They don't give us a choice. I'd love to see a day flight from HKG, SIN, and BKK to see what the numbers are like.

CX obviously does OK on daytime flights to Australia.

Other airlines would be able to fill a daytime flight into Australia more easily by virtue of their network through their hubs. QF would have a harder time as it would only either be pulling through partner airline transfers or O/D traffic. They've obviously done the sums and worked out that the cost/benefit doesn't work out.

I am guessing one other reason is they simply don't have enough aircraft at the moment... Their A330 fleet is already pretty tightly rostered as is. Adding a day rotation from Asia would mean the aircraft would either need to sit overnight in SIN or HKG or operate a midnight service from Australia, neither of which seems to slot quite so nicely into their current schedules for the A330 fleet.

I dispute this.

Oh so do I. Give the day flight anytime. I actually think it's a combination of lack of feed through the hub, like SQ, CX, TG, MH etc and Sydney-centric (curfew) thinking. The same reason no overnights to Asia either, except Japan.

I think a service, at least a JQ service, out of SIN early afternoon would have sufficient 3K connections and sufficient differentiation from other timings to work well.
