QF Complimentary Status Retention

Just to prove that QF is consistently inconsistent, I've previously been comped WP with no letter, no forward bookings and being way way short of 1200 SCs (but making the 3 year average).

But I've also been comped, to SG IIRC, after receiving letters. But that was a long time ago and definitely pre AFF

She has done quite a few Award flights on QF but they don't count of course.

You probably already know but points+pay bookings appear as 'any seat awards' and they do earn squiggles.

So if squiggles are a problem but points aren't, making bookings using maximum points and minimum pay might be a good alternative to classic awards.

In my experience if one if offered a comp but achieves that status in their own right then that comp is removed from the profile. I have been comped 3 times recently with 2 of those comps in consecutive years and the latest one this year and each time I only just made it to the 1200 SCs required or 1210 SCs. In betwee those comps I had partner Gold at 2,400 SCs in consecutive years.

I was comped for a second year of WP after one solitary year having earned it with a RTW J fair. I'd only just gotten to gold credits retain level this year so it was very unexpected and a nice touch.

Just though I would add something to your discussion.

I have been SG for the past 4 years, I normally get around 700-800 SC per year, but last year I was around the 1100 mark. This year I was sitting at 510 SC with one domestic trip to go with my anniversary for QF being 31 Jul.

I logged onto my account yesterday and had a pop up message where you status tracker is normally displayed. It only appeared once and said, "Congratulations, your status has been renewed"
That was it. No letter, nothing else? My status tracker still reads 510, but I'm fairly confident it will just clock over on the 31st...
I'm really thankful that they comped me, but it would also have been nice to be able to thanks to the person that did!

I hope you're right and you have been comped based on your 3 year average, but until the date of your next review has been changed to 31 July 2017 it's not set in stone. I've seen reports from other people seeing messages on their FF page that their status has been renewed, but then that message disappeared and they were dropped a level at the end of their year.

I was on 550, and 560 after today's upcoming 10 ADL - SYD.
Plus 120 tomorrow, and never had the comp appeared in my case.
But this end of Jul would be my 2nd year on QF SG. 3rd if including QF PS first time 3 years ago.
And had another look at my statement, (for those who replied to my other post), due to my Myopia, turns out the extra 3 points were for
QFF points from QCC, and not QF SC as I thought I saw.
Still on 550 QF SC. Not 553.

Mini-me has enough SC to re-qual PS for the third time but only two squiggles.
Her account is now showing that she has retained PS (end July turnover). I'm not sure if this is reliable or not. ...

How did it end up? Was it the early in the month phantom comp or did it stick?

Won't know until the end of this month but as she has got more than enough SC and not enough sectors I might just send her to visit her cousins.
Trying to toss up whether or not to go with her (she needs to travel as an UM due to her age).

Why would you receive a comp?

I've just been comped SG for next year. Current year ends 31st July and the letter and card arrived today. I'm 160SCs short of retaining Gold this year but I reckon my 3 year average is enough. I'm glad I didn't shell out for status run now, as it is likely I will earn enough SCs next year to retain.

Sadly looks like I will lose Plat then for the first time in 11 years on 31 July.

Only got comped once in that time, back in 2008 with a paltry 140 SCs.
Have received the mid-July extension a few times but always got over the line in any event, but I think my last few years have been in the 1200-1400 range, so I suspect this year hurts my average.

Anyhow more than 2008 (but not by much) and no change to my status online, so fallback to Lifetime Status.

Taking JQ17 SYD-MEL this coming Tue as a last hurrah.

FWIW I'd email them if you have forward bookings or travel plans the worst that can happen is they say no. A former colleague of mine did this, comp not offered but did get 3 months of DSC which he took full advantage of to get back to WP.

Bit of a different scenario but wondering if anyone's had experience of this.

Nearly a carbon copy of my predicament except I never needed the complimentary renewal.
Then due to family reasons I had one year with 400 SC and I lost my WP....it still hurts when I leave SYD T1. That QP food offering is so rubbish but I do take myself to the EK lounge when I can.
Note SYD EK does enforce the guest numbers, basically if a pax has a seat allocation they are a guest so no family visits there for me and I do not think we will bother with the QP there.
For those that think WP is not much above SG I can tell you if you travel internationally it means so much more.

I think that's the whole point. If Qantas were applying consistent logic to comping status then people would work out what's required and game the system more. That's good for us but not good for Qantas.
