I have been on four QF flights this week and I noticed there were no newspapers handed out. I asked a staff member and it is a six week trial.

That is, for the next six weeks you have to get a paper from the lounge (or from the gate if it is before 10am). So if you are heading straight to the gate when you get to the airport - tough luck.

This is taking enhancements to a new level.

The staff member did say QF were interested in feedback...

I noticed the other day in the Adelaide lounge they had removed the "Please leave reading materials in lounge" or "Please return reading materials" or whatever the sign said.

I thought the morning paper was part of the ad campaign they ran a few years ago?

Have they removed the papers from the gate??

Is this in J onboard???
Yes

The papers are only at the gate until 10am

There was a large stack at the exit of the MEL J lounge with a staff member in attendance. I now know the relevance of the repeated announcements in the lounge advising complimentary papers were available.

Well I guess that is beneficial to Y travellers.
They never have the AFR onboard either.

Its a natural progression towards digital reading...why print so many papers when people are consuming content via devices...If I was a QF shareholder, I'd prefer that my investment understands changes in content consumption...newspapers are a dying a slow death.

This trial started 1st May alongside the "enhancement" in 737 crew numbers on non breakfast/dinner services.

If you are not careful we will get you 2 copies ot "The West" when you are heading back out of Perth.

I've noticed the stack of papers at the exit to the J lounge in BNE, wondered why they were there as it cluttered an otherwise open entry way.

That said, having been in J/Y on May 1st, papers were handed out in J, but not Y. My other flights since then have been QFLink. I usually do the paper thing in the lounge anyway.

I was at SYD earlier this afternoon (around 2pm) and it appears that most gates still have newspapers (granted it is only The Weekend Australian). I am surprised they haven't run out by then.

Sunday night there was nothing decent in the ADL lounge to read anyway.

All good in theory until you get hounded to turn off all devices. For this reason I always take paper-based reading material on board.

I notice the Teles go first in Syd then SMHs and usually there's a stack of Australians left there until it's the only one left. Since SMH went tabloid... sorry 'compact' I would think it would be more popular than the Tele (or equal).

Agreed.

Couldn't care less about newspapers or lack thereof. Save a few trees.

I pretty much concur. After some time in the lounge I've usually read all the news I want to on the computers or my iThing.

After finishing a BNE/TSV/DRW JASA run I was offered a newspaper on only one or two of those flights and it would have been the early flights. Leaving the BNE J lounge yesterday I was offered a newspaper. At the gate, the newspaper stands were set up in front of the scanners almost so that you had to walk around them to get past.
