QF Email Survey ... "We'd like to know what you think"

No idea where JQ would fit in with it all though.

From some of the questions I thought it more likely QF disappears and JQ (with the ability to obtain additional extras you purchase - such as an empty neighbouring seat, full meal and drinks etc??) would replace it. But the survey was pretty wide-ranging so (hopefully) I'm reading too much into it.

I completed this Trans Tasman one as well. Very interesting mix of scenarios, I guess designed to find out through random scenarios what you favour more (eg price, baggage policy, on board food, seat choice and comfort, or earning of SCs/points/both/neither or brand loyalty). Seemed a bit leaning towards EK as the premium service and QF/Jetstar positioning as a lower cost offering. Maybe I'm misinterpreting but a bit unsettling if that's the direction.
All sorts of problems for the QF group in NZ and the trans-tasman market, some of them self inflicted, and others beyond their control. Don't forget that the zooming high NZ$, booming Kiwi economy as well as the major competitor (Air New Zealand) whom is profitable and owes the Qantas Group no favours at all and has every reason and a good track record of eliminating unwanted competitors. Add to that the various ham-fisted attempts at trying to take on NZ with a 'Jit Kinnnect' union-busting narrowbody operation (that doesn't know why its there), a loss making JQ narrowbody operation without economy of scale either, a VA trans-tasman competitor (partly owned by NZ) and then the addition of EK operating a product that poops all over the competition, and its no wonder that they are looking to re-organise their operating model or even abandon the market perhaps? You know the saying - if in doubt - do a focus group study.

I too, have participated in the same QF Trans- Tasman survey today & that was one of the possibilities I drew from the survey, as one Question in the survey related to " Gives us your thoughts on what you think if we replace Qantas services on Trans Tasman routes" ( note : Those were my words not the exact words of the question:)

( and for the record I certainly did explain my disappointment should The mainline Qantas brand be replaced Trans Tasman)

No doubt, QF are also closing looking at the Air New Zealand pricing model with their various " Add-on's" onto their various ticket bundles from their basic price bundle to their all inclusive " The Works" bundle.

Certainly this Survey commissioned by QF is certainly one of the more detailed surveys I've undertaken & appears to be very similar to market research undertaken by the likes of multinational food manufacturers when they are looking at changing their packaging or launching a new product line into the market place.

I certainly applaud QF undertaking this type of detailed survey before making changes, as no doubt QF has many options on the table in terms of changing the way they participate on Trans- Tasman routes.

In my eyes, the Trans Tasman market still has plenty of opportunity for QF, particularly with the cost efficiency of the Jet connect subsidiary.

I certainly hope the Mainline Qantas brand expands on Trans Tasman routes, particularly considering the reported successful trial last year of PER > AKL route & the additional flights added onto the SYD > ZQN route for the winter season just passed.

As the Kiwi economy is going "gang -busters" at present & with our Aussie Dollar at a low against the Kiwi Dollar.... No doubt a few more kiwi's are happy to cross the ditch for some retail therapy in our big cities, particularly MEL & SYD.
Is this another Target Market that QF could look towards I ask ?

hold your applause until we see the outcome!

rather than looking how they can add value, a survey such as this could also establish the 'walk-away' point - finding the needle that will break the camel's back and stopping just short of that.

I did the TT survey over the weekend too. I used the free text boxes to let them know exactly what I thought. The options for flights across the TT seemed pretty stupid to me and there were some occasions where I would not have chosen any of them but, of course, I had to.

You could choose none and I did on a couple of occasions.

I also stated they should remain in the market as I find QF Y to be superior to EK Y and Air NZ (have not flown any others). EK F and J are superior though haven't flown on TT route, just assuming it's identical to their long-haul flights. But QF J is fine for me for that length of flight. Needs to be a bit cheaper than EK though, but probably not possible under current agreements??

I've found QF's NZ staff to always be excellent.

Did the survey as well - CoolCatPhil's precis is about right.

Copied most of the questions - may make them available.

Tried to do the follow up survey about TT on my phone and was told it's only available on laptop and desktop computers. Going through SYD J tomorrow so I'll do it there. Wait...

With Aussie wages around 40% higher than equivalent Kiwi wages, I suspect many Kiwi's are attracted to our shores ..... Oops I'm going off topic :)
